Some little Chinese kid probably makes those,
Buy USA and support small business.
    Just my .02 cents

Alameda CA is the claim. I looked into both options but rather to support a small business on TW and personally liked Christian’s design better. Still standby his craftsmanship and customer service is second to none!

Funny to see the rah rah “made in US” posts about installing a $25 part on a made in Mexico $40K+ truck that is used to shop at a Walmart where over 1/3 of the products are from China.

    Global economy.

For me it comes down to supporting the little guy in the fight. I’ll choose a cottage vendor over a big box store any day. And if it’s USA that’s just the cherry on top. Doesn’t matter if it’s going on a $1k junk yard Detroit behemoth or $40k Korean crossover, small business is where it’s at in my humble opinion.

Thanks Christian, received mine and installed! A sturdy and elegant solution that should thwart most tailgate thieves. The color-matched powder-coat is a bonus, even if not normally visible.

Just enough room with the tailgate about 1/3 open to line up Torx bit on the bolt using ratchet extension. My truck is only about a year old, but still took a couple hammer hits to loosen original bolt before removal. The weld bead under my tailgate hinge was a little thick, so a couple light hammer taps (with rag to protect powder coat) were needed to get the curved portion of lock fully under the hinge.

I was worried about stripping the screw but it came out easy with an impact driver. The screw was on there pretty tight. I used my drill first and it would not budge at all with the max setting. Had the borrow my neighbor's driver to get it out.

I Have a question…maybe it’s a dumb one, but if these bolts/screws are so hard to remove, how are people stealing tail gates so easily?

Takes a couple of minutes and no tools to remove a Tacoma tailgate. Plenty of YouTube videos on how to remove the tailgate.

After my grandson demonstrated how easy it is to defeat the hose clamp - suspicious he had experience at this........ I bought an exhaust pipe adapter from auto parts store ($2.35?), hack sawed a close fitting steel ring, painted it black and fitted to the hinge. Done.

There are some marks on the ring now - probably from some dummy with a scewdriver. Survived for 8 years now. Wish it was this easy to protect the cats.

@christian06, what's the turnaround time from the order placed to the item shipped? I ask because I am leaving California (North County, SD) for North Carolina on the 23rd of this month. I can wait until I get there, but a trip across the country in my rig would give me some peace of mind to have something like this installed.
