I didn’t read the last couple pages. I read the first couple only saw about not being able to get the bolt off. That was the easy part lol. I’ll read the last couple pages and come back later! I love how fast the feedback and help is here. Thanks @Nords

Just saying the tailgate theft problem is still ongoing. Below is a public alert for my neighborhood, meaning the thefts have reached a point the PD needs to make a rare public announcement:

    Pickup Truck Tailgate Thefts

    Post Date:07/10/2025 4:16 PM
    Pickup Truck Tailgate Thefts

The XXXXX Police Department have observed a concerning trend: an increase in thefts of pickup truck tailgates. This press release aims to educate community members about this crime trend and provide practical tips on how to avoid becoming a victim.

    The Crime Trend:

In recent months, there has been a noticeable rise in the theft of tailgates from pickup trucks in our area. Thieves are targeting these vehicles for their valuable parts, which can be easily removed and sold for a profit. These thefts often occur in parking lots, residential areas, and even driveways, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.

    Tips on Protecting Yourself:

Secure Your Vehicle: Always lock your pickup truck and ensure all windows are closed. Consider using additional security measures, such as a tailgate lock or alarm system, to deter thieves.

Park Wisely: Whenever possible, park your vehicle in well-lit, busy areas. Avoid parking in secluded or poorly lit areas where thieves may feel less likely to be observed.

Security Cameras: If you have a home security system, ensure that cameras cover your driveway and parking areas. Visible security cameras can act as a deterrent to potential thieves.

Remove Valuable Items: Keep valuable items out of plain sight. If you have tools or accessories in the bed of your truck, consider taking them inside or securing them with a locking cover to prevent theft.

    Hey Chris!
Bought this Tailgate Anti theft device from you about three years ago and just saw it in action! Saved me from contacting my insurance and a big bill! Thanks, Steve

I wonder how the thief was going to haul away the tailgate if he had got it removed?

    - Easy to install and it is secure
    - No stripping or drilling out of the torx tailgate bolt
    - No need to use an easy out to remove stripped tailgate bolt head
    - No key to lose and no issue with a jammed lock tumbler

I do not know why anyone would use anything else to help secure a 3rd gen tailgate. I do not own this company, but I totally love this product on my 3rd gen Tacomas. Great response from this seller.

This looks like a great solution. I bought the product offered in the OP and could never get it installed because the factory bolt appears to be welded in. Will likely be trying something like this.

That said, I have the Christian06 option available in white if anyone wants to take it off my hands.

Take the plastic cover off your tailgate and soak the welded nut in penetrating oil for a couple days comes off easy

It was a bear to put on. Here's some heads up to get it done right on your tacoma.
    1. See if the part will slide under the mount without modification. If not see #2. Put a blanket in the bed of the truck, take tailgate off and put the left end in the bed so you don't have to disconnect the camera wire that runs through the tailgate.
    2. Take a razor knife and trim the seam seal at the corner so the part will fit through if the test fit didn't clear.
    3. Take off the plastic cover and use a torch to heat the bolt inside the tailgate. It won't remove without heat unless you are lucky.
    4. Once out, reinstall the tailgate and mount the part. Use a wrench and a star safety bit to tighten the screw in.
    5. Spray with w/d 40 or grease if in the North East.

I will just buy a SaBellCo and be done in 10 minutes and don’t take a chance burning paint or scratching the tailgate.
