Hello, I have an awful squealing sound that sounds like it's related to the belt, but I cannot tell where exactly it is coming from. It does not make any noise when stationary and running, and it doesn't start until going over 30mph and then only goes away when I decelerate back under 15mph.

I replaced the serpentine belt because it was terribly cracked as it was originally the original with 120k miles on it. I did not notice the noise on the 1st test drive but it came right back the next commute to work.

I did not try spinning any of the idlers or other components the belt rides on as I was convinced it had to be the dry and cracked belt making the noise. I can't imagine it's any of the components the belt rides on because it doesn't make the noise until 30mph.

Could it be the auto tensioner? Is it not belt related at all and it could be driveline? I went under my truck to grease the 3 u-joints. I had all 3 replaced with Spicer greaseable ones, then I still had vibrations so I had a shop that rehabilitated the driveshaft and I swear they must have broke the middle U-joint and put a non-greaseable cap where the grease fitting used to be. The 1st time I greased all the joints during an oil change I was able to do 3, now suddenly 1 is missing a cap and is the exact same as the other 2 (blue rubber dust boots on them) and 1 of the boots looks like it's failed. Would the u-joint create this noise I am hearing?

Greaseable have blue dust boots and the sealed have white:

Center bearing u-joint appears to be failing:

Another view with a good boot for comparison:

    Any thoughts, tests, guesses? Thanks!

Something definitely doesn't look right with that u-joint. Drop the driveshaft and flex the joint around, see if it's loose or binding. I'm seeing metal shavings, it's probably toast.

Or take it back to the shop that worked on it

Forget about the accessory belt. Your noise is related to wheel speed (eg: driveshaft speed) not engine speed

The caps look like they are pressed too far in?
    Is that the right U-joint?

Maybe it's just the angle of the picture?
But the caps look like they are in too far?

Surely they didn't go until it bottomed out?

They are the correct u-joints as far as I can tell/find. The caps also look as pressed in as they do on other images of 2nd gen tacoma drive shafts... but the shop that installed them was not quality as they also screwed up properly phasing my driveshaft when they re-installed it...

Just in case others run into this, I wanted to circle back and indicate that the squeal ended up being from a failing carrier bearing. I had an OEM installed in the last year so I could only assume it was a crap part or the carrier bearing "drop" kit I put on caused it to prematurely fail. I had a driveshaft shop in Virginia make a custom 1-piece and the noise was completely gone.

    Glad your noise is gone.
If you have an 06 then I would say that it is time for all the idler pulleys. Yes spin them with the belt off and also feel the grind.
As for the tensioner when it starts to flex a lot on hard/full throttle and you smell burning rubber/belt then it is shot. Thats a fun one as it bolts under the AC compressor.
