There is a guy in my area that leaves his RTT and all of his offroad gear on his Xterra and parks it outside every night. Luckily we live in a good area that is away from the major cities or else it would be stripped by now.

I'm guilty of leaving the front shackles on, mainly because I'm lazy (they're painted black like the bumper though). I've got some of the poly spacer things on them and I've never noticed them rattling. I did put a loop of wire rope with a crush ferrule on them so they can't just be unscrewed without cutting the cable. The rear shackle, winch controller and some other basic recovery gear stay in the back for the same reason since I also tend to do the "I wonder what's down that road" thing. I carry a bit more equipment if I plan to go where I might need it.

15-20 minutes of preparation to reinstall your awning is still plenty spur of the moment. Realistically, if you're worried about it being stolen, that's the only option. A pair of bolt cutters and a battery powered grinding wheel will make removing your awning a quicker job than installing whatever security device you find.

Ah the joys of living in Bumtown, OR. Used to be a decent town up until about 5 years ago. I was going to say what some others have said - move to a better part of town. Either way good luck with the awning dude, I’d be pretty pissed if I had one stolen off my car. Maybe try using some security fasteners to keep it on your truck

I thought we called them “Instalanders” around here.

I always get a chuckle when I see the kiddos with rooftop tents. If you’ve ever been hunting or enjoy driving away from your campsite without breaking camp, you know those RT’s are just for looks hahaha

Same, same. I made that mocking some of the easily offended and overly sensitive prissy-pants on ExPo. I'm from the old school dirt bag climber/river rat school and usually leave camping gear packed/tossed in the back of my truck (it has a shell on it).
