A padlock hasp, a padlock, and an old bike inner tube probably could be fabbed into a decent locking system that attaches to the bed rail next to one of the quick fists. It’s probably doable for under $20.

I’m more surprised that someone isn’t selling painted plastic mock-ups that look like shovels and axes and maxtraxx mounted on on quick fists and the like. They wouldn’t be functional, of course, but they’d get the look.

Can you tell me what locks you used and how you mounted it to the bed? TIA

The paddle locks are just cheap ones from Harbor Freight, the mounts are by Maxtrax, I made the straps and bought the front rail for a Gen 2. I figure those locks will slow down a snatch and go tweeter but not a determined thief.

Where are you going that you need to lock an axe and shovel? If I bring an axe and shovel it’s for an intended purpose and not in an area where someone would steal it.

You obviously don't know how to 3rd gen Brocoma. Carry your stuff around 24/7 to look cool and then you might get to murder someone for stealing your $55 shovel! It's a win-win!

I know it's kind of cliche broverlander thing, but I live in an apartment and it's much easier to keep traction boards and a shovel in my truck than a closet. End of the day, it's a shovel. If it dies, it dies.

It's easier for everyone to leave that stuff in/on the truck than to take it off, regardless of housing type. I get your point, though. It's a risk to balance the consequences of. Leave it on the truck all the time, risk theft. Only mount it when you might need it, less risk. (Not zero, you usually have to gas up, grab food, etc.) Add locks, mitigate some risk, deal with locks whenever you want to use them. Personally I take that stuff off when I won't need it because leaving it outside is no good for it anyway and I hate dealing with locks, keys, combos, stuck/rusted locks, etc. I had a lock on my back fence at my last house because some punks would cut through my yard instead of walking around the neighborhood and ALWAYS leave soda/beer/energy drink cans in my yard. I loathed having to F with that lock every week to mow the lawn outside the gate/wall. That's all I think about when I think of having to lock my gear on my truck.

    No here? No there? Nowhere!

So you don't lock your truck or you don't take it "no where"?
