I own a gransfors axe, it is the cadillac (Lexus around these parts) of the axes. However... The Swedish husqvarna axes are excellent steel if you re-work the bevel. One guy up there has it right, get a saw like a stihl ps-30 http://www.stihlusa.com/products/hand-tools/hand-pruning-saws/ps30/ or a bahco. When we canoe camp we usually take the saw and a hatchet. The saw cuts and the hatchet splits. Unless you use an axe frequently and become competent with it it will only get you hurt. As for trail riding in a truck? CORDLESS SAWZALL all day long. Inverter in the bed charges the packs!!!!

Very good tool. Not as sharp out the box. But you can get it there.

Another slightly less expensive option. Wetterlings. Less effort from the company in fit and finish. Mine came dusty in rust and the handle grain is a smidge off. But it is also a razor. I have a hatchet from them. I think they make the better sheath.

I always carry a full size shovel when I an off road, guess I should be bringing some kind of an axe or saw.

I bring a fold-able saw, and a small snow shovel. Best tools outside of those for recovery are still a winch and good straps and shackles.

I carry a full size shovel i brought from a hardware store in the back of my truck at all times. Digging a truck out with a small, dinky shovel sucks.

Shovel and ho from Lowe's. Went with the longest shovel that has a handle on the end. The ho is just a regular garden style with a long handle. Gransfors Bruks small forest ax. The ax is spendy, but it's extremely comfortable to use.

I'm surpised so many people opt for such expensive axes like the Gransfors for a truck axe

SAWZALL blade looks mean OZ! I will have to snag one of those. Looks like it will give the upper hand in street fighting at the mall as well. I do love me a dual purpose tool! :)

The only time it's in the truck is if I'm heading out onto the trail. I don't leave anything in my truck after getting broken into. Bastards took everything, including my car wash tokens.

Nice!! Now that is too nice to swing into a log!

My truck is empty unless I'm camping.
