My '05 2nd gen had a few issues.
A warped rear window off the lot, 0 miles. Replaced with another warped pane so they finally gave up and just gave me a slider.
I loaded a motorcycle in the back like any other truck and bent the tail gate in a "V", less than 1,000 miles. Toyota replaced with new revision w/added stiffener bar.
Timing chain cover leaking oil, 23,000 miles (2.7). Toyota fixed.

What’s wrong with the motor? Tell me what you think and I’ll listen to what you have to say. You may very well be right because I’ve been bangin with the standard shift guys and haven’t even thought about the motor yet. You need to give the 4 banger crew some ammo for when we come at them.

I like “I’m running late because I had to pack up my awning. I haven’t used it, but I like having it”.

    Fawk me. Uggh.

When you are as cool as they are, you’d think they need some sun.

2nd gen people avoiding 3rd gen because of perceived problems is laughable.

This OP problem is certainly not common

Someday, the 2nd gen guys will come around and get a 3rd gen. Then they will be telling us how bad our 4th gens are.

Toyota's are junk, I should have bought a Donkey and would have been better off. I just spent a week in Moab with mine. Ran Kanes Creek and made it through hamburger hill. Wish I had a 3rd gen with a diesel engine. It will never happen, and the little 4 cylinder engine is the best one out of all. Toyota still needs to build a better product or they are going to start losing customers.

Interesting perspective. So, what do you think is the best 4 cyl that Toyota ever put in their trucks?

Again... NEVER any problems with mine. Shouldn’t you be working on your paint job?

Internal combustion engines can all have oil starvation issues. You just match the oil pan to the use case (flying inverted, racing in a circle, climbing, extreme offroad, etc).
