I recently got a new Pro Comp leaf springs installed onto my 95.5 Toyota Tacoma by a local lift shop but I noticed the axle moved forward an obvious amount, between 3/4-1" and now my axle isn't centered in the wheel well. On top of that, the rear brake cable sits right on top of the leaf spring and I know for sure it shouldn't be like that and it'll definitely break eventually as long as it rubs. A few experienced guys including the shop who installed the springs told me that theres no real way around but I beg to differ. What could have gone wrong or is it really normal? I was thinking axle relocation plates from AllPro would be my best bet but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Shims are offset if that helps.

P.S. I’m from Hawaii and grew up around “Hawaiian style” lifted trucks so don’t mind the crazy lift height lol everybody’s got their unique style. Thanks in advanced!

I highly doubt it. I believe the shorter side of the leaf springs go towards the front.

It's fine and somewhat normal with really arched leaf springs.

So it’s normal for the springs to be moved forward but if they were to be compressed there would be a lot of stress put onto the U-Joints?

Most arch leaf spring have different eyelet to eyelet or eyelet to center pin measurement, which required new front spring hanger or rear rear shackle mount.

What angle are your shackle at, at current ride height location?

You need an axle relocation plate. Mine came from all-pro.

I love those weld wheels. One of my favorites of all time. Can’t help with the leaf issue though

How high is too high to the point where you'll need the relocation plates?

It not about height. It's that the center pin on some leaf packs aren't in the exact same position as the pin on the stock pack.

Hm, this kinda happened to me too when installing wheelers 5 leaf pack. It moved forward a bit. I torqued down the new u bolts and took it for a drive and alot of the issues I had with the original leafs were gone, no more clunking, braking was even better and a bit smoother.

Hmm, I didn't even realize there was a shorter and longer side when I replaced mine with the crappy Dorman's. I wonder if that's why I have axle wrap so bad.

When you switch to a leaf-pack that is much thicker than the stock pack, this will happen.
They should have warned you about that.

What I did, is to exclude the overload leaf (thicker, reversed leaf at the bottom of each pack)
during the install. This reduced the overall thickness by about 1/2 inch, and the cables cleared.

The tire will travel in an arc not straight up and down. As the spring compresses the tire will move back. Relocation plates may move it back to far.

The shackles sits vertical and my ride height is at about 6-6.5” The rear sits higher than the front.
