The way I feel is if the boot is compromised there's always that chance the contamination has occured and damage done even if none detectable at first. I would hate to go through it all and have a CV start clicking a few months down the line. If the boot tears I just replace the whole thing. I have it out anyway. I used aftermarket shafts from AutoZone on my wife's Odyssey and they went 7 years before the boots tore. I returned to AutoZone and they replaced free of charge and will again when need be. On top of that they where 1/5 the cost of OEM. For me it just works to be a better deal. I think Napa also offers lifetime warranties as well.
