I'm replacing both rear axle seals on 07 tacoma and the new o ring I got from toyota is a little bigger than the old one. When installed it sits a little loose. I dont know if the guy at Toyota gave me the wrong one or it's made to sit on the axle that way. I dont have the part number off hand, but I went to my local Toyota dealership and picked it up. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

It should fit snug, you have the wrong seal.

They need to be tapped in with a mallet.

I have the right seal installed but the black rubber ring that sits on the outside edge of that.

    Ooooooooh.

I'd just reuse the old oring if it fits better. It's more of a dust seal and if its soft its fine.

Ok thanks, yeah thats what I was thinking of doing. It is still in pretty good shape for 330,000 miles. Just has s little rust on it.

90301-83002 is the part number for the correct o ring

Op, you might want to replace your diff breather if it is the original stock one.
Just because this job sucks, and if that breather gets “stuck shut” it could blow the seals out.
That’s what I believe happened to mine.
