axle shaft abs ring question

i have an axle from 2001 tacoma without abs rings.. went to have abs rings pressed on, was told shaft was not the correct shaft, that there are two different shafts for abs and non-abs... is this correct???

 

Yes, this is correct - there are two different shafts. Any truck with ABS OR an e-locker uses the ABS shaft, non-ABS+non-e-locker use the non-ABS shaft.

The non-ABS shafts neck down immediately after the bearing retainer and won't work with a tone ring, or the inboard retainer ring that rides on the seal.
