Rear axle shims are used to change the pinion angle in order to reduce drivetrain bind. Typically used w/ lifts from 2-3 inches and up.

to correct pinion angle of the rear end after a lift. It helps reduce/eliminate driveline vibrations cuased by a lift and incorrect pinion/u joint angles.

or heres a site for you...

On a leaf truck I like having the pinion 1-2* lower. so when you load it it's running at 0*.

Shims- Used for lifts 2"-3" and makes the axle have more stability and less 5-10 mph vibration from the driveline and axle
