And it wouldn’t matter when the frame or leaf spring hangers snapped in half.

Yup no biggie. Most 14b rears are running adapters since they are commonly paired with Dana 60s, not to mention it’s width is narrower as well.

Though he could find a wrecked 3rd gen with 8.75. Bigger diff and the axle shafts are basically the same as a 14b
