I want it to disassemble a M89 300 blackout upper and then won’t need it again. Could I borrow it from you if you have one?

Yeah I've got it. You want me to disassemble the upper for you? I've got all the jigs and fixtures to do it without putting any stress on the barrel extension indexing pin that can shear off if there is too much gronk applied without properly supporting the upper.

For AZTW members it's a free service. ;)

If you ever Assemble an AR Upper, I highly recommend "shiming the barrel."
Lots of guys know how this is done and have the equipment to do it. @Nitori - I'll bet you have done this.

Essentially where my upper receives the barrel wasn't milled perfectly cylindrical - they are all a wee bit off. Wider in the back than in the front - was allowing a tiny bit of barrel wobble. Guy on Arizona Gun Owners was able to check the run-out on it and then shimmed it what what looked like metal tape that he super glued in there. Two shims thick at the back and one up front. Then we put them back together (took some grunting and cussing) super tight! Torqued to spec. AR got more consistent by a magnitude of 10x. Was shooting Minute of Comrade, now shooting 4" groups at 100 yards and that has way more to do with my eyes than the gun. At 50 yards they almost all touch.

So many AR parts are quickly mass produced these days that a not everything is as good as Mil-Spec and we know how good that isn't to begin with.

Yes sir, all my barrels on self-built uppers are shimmed. I do occasionally buy Centurion arms or BCM thermal fit uppers. They specifically undersize the barrel extension and you gotta heat it up with a torch or a heat gun and then shove it on there quick before the aluminum sheds the heat.
My M16A2 clone shoots like a dream & I used the trick- I was able to double tap steel targets at 200 yards.

The original stoner design was supposed to be a clearance fit for mass production, but it was a trick apparently discovered during marksmanship competitions.

I've never tried loctite green or gluing in the shims- there's not really a good reason to aside from ease of assembly, but you pay it back in ease of disassembly. I have a 1" wood dowel that I sanded to about .998" that goes inside the receiver and taps out the barrel.
