I just know what I've seen on the one episode of Top Gear that they took the Hilux to the North pole. The diesel looked to be a torque monster and that is what is appealing to me. I can give two shits about speed.

Yeah 35+ mpg in an auto 4wd doublecab with instantaneous torque, nothing to obsess about. But like my ol'man always says, 'free will, you can be stupid if you want'.

Um... Toyotas diseal they use on the hilux has less torque and hp than the 4.0. Yall can keep smoking.

I guess you struggle to understand the definition of instantaneous

Um Nope. If you want that... Do an electric motor. I'm not going to argue that there aren't good diseals out there, but the option Toyota actually would use... Would be worse than what we have.

Yes 253ft/lbs at 2800rpm is worse then 266 ft/lbs at 4000rpm. How do you work at Intel? Your math is atrocious.

Drop the gear and you're in 4000rpm. It just depends where you want the powerband. Lower does not always mean better. The torque curve is more than sufficient, especially with 4-LO for nearly any situation we encounter. And when not, boost. I can spin mud terrains right now from a start... more torque will really do nothing. The frame can't handle any more hauling abuse than it's rated for.

I'm just saying, there's no need or use for it, and the 4.0L is a better motor for most situations. And yes, overall 266 > 253 in peak performance.

According to the Hilux specs I'm reading that little 4cyl diesel makes nearly 350 foot pounds by 1400 rpm?

Pretty sure that's nm, not ft-lbs

Actually that'd be like 515 hp... so no not nm either. I dunno where you got that number from but everything else shows nothing near that much power for it... Maybe some massive turbo boosted monster?

Yeup, you are right which means that little 4 cyl only pumps 250 lb ft @ 1400 rpm. That's still not bad but it doesnt matter... It would never hit the states

Don't get me wrong, it's a solid motor. However, we don't live in a harsh ice cold enviroment where a diseal would do better, and it's no where near "better" enough in this market segment that would make it a worth while option for Toyota to include. Now, kill the I4 and drop in the diseal. It's solid but nothing to jizz pants over. I'd much rather have the 5.7 v8 as an option personally.
