    My MPG's suck as well...

on another note.. question for those who have a house

Lyd and I have officially begun looking for Homes :D

We got approved through a Program that Jon (scarlet4x4) was so kind enough to tell us about.. Thanks Jon! and are now looking..

    the question is.. HOA..

sux.. most of us will probably agree. BUT.. it isnt always avoidable..

We have found houses with both HOA, and no HOA.. most being with HOA.

a couple in particular that we love and have everything we are looking for.. except they have an HOA.

how big of a PITA are they really? I mean.. people work on their vehicles with an HOA. there are rules obviously.. but is it really going to make my life a living hell? or should i not really worry about it?

    my parents are lucky.

we dont have hoa. but as you come down my road you can clearly tell that people give no fucks about their yard.

at my aunts house they have an hoa. and the day after xmas they got a warning about not having their xmas lights down. it is a rich person neighborhood so its understandible

see.. the yard thing doesnt bug me.. because we are OCD anyways (for people that have seen our place) .. its gonna be picked up and clean regardless.. and I like the fact that everyone else has to have their yards clean and presentable as well. the xmas lights thing would be annoying.. but not a biggie.

its more so for vehicles. the house we are interested in has an RV gate.. so we will be using that to store toys, projects, etc.. i dont want an HOA tellign em what i can and cant do, and what i can and cant have behind my gate.

i want to be able to build a nice fire pit in the backyard, etc. without them on my back the whole time. I guess it depends on the HOA itself really.

    fuck HOAs

lived in 1 and will never do it again.

if you ever planning on having a camper, boat, or anything that is above the wall in the back yard, dont get a HOA.

You will get cited and fined for parking on the street, side of the house without pavement, storage, etc. etc. Depending on how bad the HOA is. In one subdivision people would walk during the day to see if they had the HOA approved plants in their backyard. Plus the fee's for that bullshit. Other will let you do said things as long as you follow the guidelines. You should be able to find out the info on the HOA before you commit to a subdivision.

Yes, this all does really depend on the HOA... My friend is currently getting artificial grass put in her back yard, and the HOA is trying to stop her from doing it.. In my experience, they are a massive PITA and will try to dictate what you do in, and to your own home.. My my general rule of thumb is to stay away from them at all costs.. I live in a neighborhood just north of Old Town, and while there is the occasional asshat that doesn't take care of his home, most people do, and I can do whatever the hell I want.... Also keep in mind that working on your vehicle, after dark can be a big no no in an HOA if it is something that generates noise, even if it is in your garage...

Like others have said, after living in a place where I had to deal with HOA I will never do so again. Good luck on your search and congrats on getting approved.

Oooo good call on this one, on a side note I am thinking of taking my baseball bat to the side of the company owners head at the moment. Still debating whether or not crushing his skull in is worth the charge for murder felony 1.

I know that depending on where you are looking, inventory can be a little slim right now, but if you can avoid an HOA, do so!!! Like others have said, I've lived in one, and hated every second of it.. I really don't like the idea of paying someone to tell me what I can, and can't do to and in my home that I pay the mortgage for..

so true. it bugs me already that i pay rent.. just throwing money away and have to put up with rules.. I guess getting into a house with an HOA will be somewhat the same thing.

Well.. forget that house then.. it was awesome too :( but.. has an HOA.

Not all HOA's are a bad. Most are but my sisters HOA is pretty chill and they never bother her as long as her lawn is kept weed free and mowed, and they don't leave cars in street. The HOA I lived in for awhile was a nightmare.

Check for HOA reviews for that area you are looking in.
