opinions on leasing a car to buying a car?

my girlfriend is convinced to lease a car now, and i just dont buy it. i havent done it before and i honestly dont know much of it. it just sounds like renting a house vs buying a house to me.

her reasonings:
she has very little money right now to get a nice car, and she needs a nicer car with good AC since she has a 4 Yr. old son. her credit is very low so getting a new car would mean 20%+ on the interest rate.
if anything goes wrong with the car they fix it, she doesnt need to do anyting.
i origionally convinced her to get a cheap car for like 3 grand and i was going to go to a dealers auction with my buddy who has his license and get her a car. but now her heater/ac just went out in her house and she needs a new compressor now (2200)

does anyone know the ins and outs of leasing?

Don't lease! Not a very good idea. Dealerships make it seem like that's what everyone does. Unless she is going to drive very little miles and trade it in after 2 years, it's not a good idea. My wife was about to lease a Rav4. She was dead set on it. I had to talk her out of it.

okay, but she has a 500 credit score, has no car right now cause she got in a wreck and got fucked (long story) has a 4 year old son and a job that is far as fuck. and she barely has any money. i dont think she has much of an option?

even though i agree with you i was trying to talk her out of it last night.

Payments on leasing depends on your credit score. I believe you still have to have at least a 600 credit score to lease.

I have personal experience with leasing. Did it with my taco. I would never do it again and would never recommend it either.

 

Tv commercials make it seem like you can lease a car for cheap. For example, commercials say you can lease a Rav4 for $199. My wife went in and was told that it would be $350.

 

my reasoning is, 200/month is 2400 in a year, i can get a decent late 90s honda civic with AC and all for that price.... then you get a car thats yours and you can do what you want......

 

This is a major reason why I never lease.
