That'd kinda how I feel this year but my business has me stuck here. Not that it's a bad thing. Need a boat to withstand these summers.

My parents retired onto a boat in Mexico, it's funny that they come here in the summer to escape the heat down there.

I have my Technician License and would like to go General, just been real busy lately with work and building a garage. I have a Kenwood 2M/70cM mobile that I use as a base with a Comet vertical antenna. KG7DDR is my call sign.

So you like the Gordon West audio book? I bought something similar for my Tech license and took Tech and General tests about a yard and a half ago. I passed the Tech, but not General. I lot of memorization of unfamiliar terms and rules for a newbie. Tech was pretty simple as I work in the Electrical / Electronics field.

I like that Gordan West has audio books. I can listen to them in the truck to and from work or anywhere for that matter. I had a book that was manly a memorize the answers with some explanation for my Tech, it was ok, but not great. I used the GW audio book for my General and felt I understood the info that much better. I bought the ARRL book for my Extra and I am not as happy with it as I would like to be, so I am going to order Gordan's audio book and start listening to it.

If you want to give it a go, I think I still have the General Study Guide in iTunes, I can get a copy to you and if you like it, pick up the book to read along with it. Also, most local colleges have a copy of both that you can check out from the library or ham club.

Do you get on any of the repeaters around town? Any of the nets?

As far as my Amateur Radio use, I have mostly been a "lurker", listening to a net now and then on 2M and 70Cm bands. I have a Icom R75 (general coverage receive only) for 15 years and have listened in on 20, 40 & 80 meters for a long time. Always had a fondness for distance monitoring, especially the AM broadcast band of all things.

I hope to have my Wife get her Technician license so that I can communicate on 2 Meters when I am out of cell phone coverage areas to her at our home in Glendale. Not getting much traction on her studying for Tech, so I am looking to go General and buy a HF radio for the "shack", or maybe an all band base radio so I can move the Kenwood V71 into my Tacoma.

Darn shame so few of the off-road guys here at TW are satisfied with CB in our trucks as CB is SO limited. But they would need to clean up their act if they went to the Amateur bands.
