Well that Is a mod for the future. Luckily I dont really need it running just 33's at the moment and not a extreme amount of weight. I just figured since I would be in there why not if it was easy and somewhat cheap

When I was in VA, ECGS was a day trip. Drive down in the AM, drive back that eve with new gears. When I go back to visit, I'm stopping in to visit and have a locker installed. Yes I know its only a PreRunner, but 2WD is better than 1 WD!!!

I've got a Garmin eTrex 30 for biking/hiking. I have the AZ Topo uploaded from https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/

Any unit is good at tracking your route and can be helpful in backtracking out. Screen size and color make any viewing better with relevant increase in cost.

The challenge and limit is getting trails/routes on it. Most info on the Topo Map is from many many years ago. This may or may not be accurate with regards to legality, wash outs, reroutes, etc.

    http://topofusion.com/
is a pretty good AZ local developed program for viewing, creating, editing track files. It was developed by a long distance mountain biker in Tucson. It gets used quite a bit for developing the routes for various self-supported events and rides.

    ARB is down to 875
    Detroit 565
    LockRight 330
    Truetrac LS 495

It would be 2900 for me to do a high pinion spool front and V6 ARB rear. Yeah, I'll deal with crappy turning for a while longer.

Depends on your desires and expectations. Off road isn't going to get voice guidance like the OEM/Street Units. It takes work just to have a line to follow on a map off road.

Expedition Portal has 2 forums just for Hardware and Software for GPS.

From what I've gathered, the Lowrance units used in racing are not worth it. They are primarily Fishing units adapted to off road, and don't work easily even with the Race Promoter provided race course.
I'm leaning towards a mid-sized tablet (iPad mini or similar) in the buggy. Gaia GPS seems to be a decent App that I haven't tried yet. I do have a Topo Maps app on my phone with most of the normal areas downloaded and has been helpful while exploring.

In all reality, I'm looking for something I can search around on and find a camping area. I'd like to have elevation as well. I don't need any of the fancy voices or anything along those lines. Something that will tell me where I'm at on the map and have off road trails.
