    Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way.

    Have your buddy post an ad on CL describing the laptop, what the guy looked like, where they meet, etc, etc, etc... It won't help with getting his money back but it odds are this isn't the first person who got fucked over by this tool and maybe someone can catch him in the act.
