Hmm, the oil drain plug on the engine is supposed to be 42' pounds right?

So instead of buying long tubes my dad is going to have someone chop the cats and replace it with piping? I told him im not sure if that is a good idea. If it actually works could they be considered "fake" long tubes?

 

No it would be more like gutted cats. All your accomplishing by doing that is extending the exhaust pipe up to the factory exhaust manifold. Yes long tube do not have a cat built in but the are redesigned to be less restrictive than the factory manifolds.

 

I personally think this is not a good idea. But if it works ill be happy.

Yea as above, they will not really act as LT headers... that said it is still cat elimination so you will be opening up flow either way.

Also, if you're doing that.. why not just.... drill out and gut the cats instead of paying someone to replace the piping? Also with the head the headers get... I doubt it'll seal very well unless it's a hell of a good weld job.... I'd just invest the *slighly* more cash to get some used DTLT's or JBA headers at that point...

 

Also yay... finally did my oil change, AFE recharge (well that's still in progress), re-lubed the damn in cabin blower, and a once over on the interior... at least it doesn't feel alll redneck.

Also think I figured out one of my annoying ass rattles up front... apparently I forgot to rebolt the transmission cooler in at some point... Hurray for zip ties as a temp solution.

 

Idk what tell yea man, I agree with you 100%. My dad is difficult to convince, so he can do whatever he wants. I have money for long tubes, but the money I have is supposed to be for a lift and new tires.

 

Try 400, get an extension and put some weight into it, your oil is important you don't want to risk it dripping.

maybe I can bolt a press to the side of my house and use that on the extension, 12 ton should do the trick?

 

Spent all day working on our Firebird, finally got it timed and running like a champ. Wish the wipers worked on it so we could drive it

decided to flush the trans fluid and change the filter for it while we had it up on jacks. Almost done. Going to go on a nice long cruise tomorrow after sea foam
