I did tons of electrical work on my old house. It's easy. Just make sure you kill the breaker first. And when you kill the breaker, make sure you still test the circuit to make sure it is really dead. We had one set of outlets we needed to move at the old house. Killed the breaker that was labelled for them. Went back inside, plugged the voltmeter in...hey, there's still voltage here. WTH. Breaker was mislabeled. Spent the rest of the day flipping breakers and relabeling them, found all sorts of stuff that was messed up.

Back on the sub the roving electrician had to take logs on the ship's battery voltages every hour. They had a panel in the forward compartment lower level with a couple of probes and a bunch of sockets, one for ground, one for each cell of the battery, and one for the battery as a whole. Well, this one electrician chief was on his proficiency watch (the chiefs had to stand one watch a quarter to keep their proficiency), he gets to the battery logs and he's in a big hurry, so he's got a guy writing for him and he's just jamming the plug into each socket and reading off the voltage. He gets to the last socket for the whole battery and doesn't notice that his fingers have slipped down the probe, and just as he slams it in they slip down and make contact with the metal knurled ring on the end of the probe. (He also hadn't noticed that he was holding the ground probe too close as well.) BOOM!!! 240V DC, god-only-knows how many amps, fingertip-to-fingertip, right across the heart. Threw him clear across the hallway, knocked him out cold. Everyone thought he was dead. If we hadn't been in port he probably would have been. They had him up on a table in the crew's mess doing CPR for five minutes until the ambulance got there. He was okay though, came back to duty a couple of days later. And he got his own ship-alt, they came around and put finger guards on all of the probes fleet-wide a couple of months later.

Of course, I was inferring oversizing (even if I didn't state it) with #8 on a longer run. Derating is often missed when people run wire. For 6' that #10 on a 30A is not a concern, but if I was going to run 100 feet on #10 I would still be more comfortable upsizing the wire and breaker for some peace of mind. Especially when you are getting close to the limit on derating the breaker. Especially here in AZ where we exceed the typical temperature used to derate circuits.

BTW, to add to what he said for those reading, just because the breaker is rated for 20A, doesn't mean you can attach 19A of devices or equipment and expect it to stay engaged. 75, maybe 80 percent the stated rating at maximum.

    Soooooo this just happened..

Brakes started grinding and I could feel resistance while driving my 3 mile commute home. I babied it using lower gears to slow my speed, got to the house, turned and had to use brakes to get into the driveway.. got really bad.. stuttering.. truck was trying to drive, but was stopping, like the brakes were seizing. As soon as I pull up into the driveway, when its at its worst, I hear the tire pouring out air. I stop the truck, park it, turn it off, jump out to see this.. pulled it apart and holy hell...

Caliper bolt fell out.. caliper was rubbing the wheel, enough to gouge it and break my wheel in 3-4 places. I am SO thankful and lucky this happened here, now, rather than 2 days ago during our Sedona trip.. when we drove 300+ miles, driving 80, wheeling, and when Lyd was in the truck.
