I like @Jonny22r 's suggestion of leveraging his connection, but if you do take it in consider R&A Auto (on Steves & Rt. 66) before the dealership. Those guys there are awesome, they only work on Japanese vehicles and only use OEM parts. I would take my truck or my wife's Highlander there in a heartbeat over any dealership.

Hmm I've seen this place before but never knew if it was good or not. I may have to stop by an pick his brain. I think part of my issue an why I'm leaning twords dealer is the supercharger

A leak down is basically using compressed air into the cylinder to identify where it is leaking if it is at all.
Dealership and or other shop should be able to. But I would probably try the other shop first since their rates are normally lower.

    sigh, supercharged life yo.

Compression test is easy. Rent the tool from harbor freight, pull the spark plug, screw it in, and crank the motor. Definitely would be interesting to see

This supercharger, it sounds like a real PITA.

Ack, just looked up the supercharger for a second Gen. That sucks.

At least you didn't have to remove the supercharger to replace a thermostat like I did. 3 hour thermostat job on the z.

Swapped in a used motor with 99k miles. Had all the seals replaced, clutch, timing belt, etc. and the bill was like $56xx. Probably not worth it, but I definitely wasn't skilled enough to do it myself or attempt anything else at the time.

The owner and techs there have been at that place for decades and know generations of Toyota's. It'd be worth it to go pick their brain's to see what their supercharged experience is.

Yeah that's what I'm scared of.
My honest though is that if I gotta get a new motor I'll strip the truck 100% of all the extras, sell the truck an start with an 05-08
