Yeah, that's the goal is to open them new ones and start having them deposit their own allowance and money they earn into it.

 

FYI, Just heard this today. Parents on average are paying out $18 a week for allowance. Some affluent families are paying out $100 a week on average to their kids for allowance.

 

Mine get food and clothes as allowance for doing one or two "family" chores. We have a list of chores and how much they pay out (clean bathroom $10, sweep and mop kitchen $10, etc). They want to buy things, they must work for them.

 

My almost 11 year old gets $5 if she does her chores, 13.5 year old gets $10.

If they want more, then they earn it with extra work.

 

I can see the $18 per week, but $100 a week times a whole year. You do the math. That just astounds me. Multiple that by how many kids you have.....

 

Those paying a $100 are the same going to Baby Ralph Lauren for $200 shoes and shirts. No sense.

I never had one growing up. I got birthday and Christmas presents and up until I was about 12 or 13 Easter baskets.
Pretty sure my dad told me that if I wanted money to buy shit, that I should get a job. When I was 13 I started working for him cleaning his work shop on the weekends.

I know the ex-wife has been giving the kids cash for allowance but I never have cash sooooo... I'm thinking maybe $5/week.
The girls are 6 and 10 so they are old enough.

 

Mine have a list of chores they do which are the price of living under our roof. They occasionally get a chance to do extra work that they earn money for. And they also get money from their grandparents for Christmas and whatnot. As they have grown older they have also earned the opportunity to be fined when they engage in egregious violations of the rules of the household.
