    I got a book, you can get your license super easy. So much better than that CB when out on the trails. You could "phone" one of your "friends" when you were on your way back, so she can have your sponge bath all ready.

    Anyone have any input on the Baofeng UV-5RA handheld? Cheap, but for it's price it does everything I need. A lot of decent reviews on it as well.

    I have a UV5R, not sure what the extra letter gets you but it will do just fine for trail runs. Heck, I was even getting into repeaters in Cali when I ran that before I installed the mobile radio. You can get an external antenna to mag mount or trunk lip mount for a little better reception also. It's the way into the hobby for most.

    They are a good, cheap entry level HT. I could bash them all day, but for what you want, they do the trick. Now, to make it more useable, get an antenna and mount it outside. Also make sure you get the 12v adaptor and handheld mic. That way you can mount it somewhere and just use the handheld mic and run it all day without power being a concern.
