The Short Story - for non-motorheadsAs a field biologist and outdoor sports enthusiast, I had long wanted a small, fully-contained (shower, toilet, kitchen appliances), high-clearance camper. I've camped in pretty much every kind of tent camp imaginable, but my back no longer agrees with sleeping on the ground or a cot. I've also tried a small fiberglass travel trailer, thinking I needed to keep the camper and automobile separate for better mobility in the field. But travel trailers are not meant to be used on rough roads; they bounce and jounce and eventually tear themselves apart, along with everything in them. Then one day my wise old friend Paul Quan mentioned he considered the 18 ft Sunrader the best mini-RV ever made. I didn't know the Sunrader by name, but when I Googled it I certainly recognized it from the 1970s and 80s. When I saw a picture of the rare factory 4x4 version, I was hooked. I figured I could create the ultimate Sunrader by transplanting an original Sunrader camper onto a more recent Toyota Tacoma 4x4 cab and chassis. I've always appreciated the dependability and styling of 1st generation (1995-2004) Tacomas, and I swear by the 2001 4Runner I've owned for 10 years. An original 4x4 Sunrader, if and when you can find one, sells for at least $25,000. I figured I could build a technologically and stylistically "better" Sunrader for less than that amount, even though I would need to hire professionals to do the welding and fiberglass work. It was no small undertaking, but it's a one of a kind vehicle. The only thing close I've seen on-line is a transplant to a 80s vintage Toyota Hilux extended cab 4x4. If you're not interested in the details of the "build", you can scroll to the bottom to see images of the finished product.

Workers came back to paint and finish the job today. Classic issue where Rob gets all pissed off, and then it works out anyways :anonymous:

John would be proud to pass that title down to him tho. Remember, Andrew was gonna be his son in law until his daughter found a new guy.

Allison I believe was the one to suggest it. John can tell the tale but I doubt we see him on today. He should be on the road headed for KS.

Work, house work, work, house work, yard work, car/truck work, helping neighbors with projects. I really haven't gone out and done anything in awhile. Seems like every free minute I have is dedicated to some sort of house project.

I've been putting new screens on all of my windows since they are 20+ years old. I really thought it was going to be harder than what it is but it's a pretty simple process. Just takes time. Just 10 more screens to finish and the entire house will be done. Then I can move on to the three bathroom faucets, 3 ceiling fan's, putting stairs into my attic next. Oh and I still have to finish the corn hole pits in the back yard plus the fire pit, plant a tree, install pavers, bring in 10 tons of rock, and we are going to paint the outside of the house when it cools off a bit.
