The accident happened around 5 this morning, its been on the radio and there are tons of traffic apps that help avoid stuff like this. We live in Phx were this type of shit happens at least once a week. Need to be prepared.

The state just made headlines about getting a $100 million grant to help traffic on the 101. They will be putting up more signs and tracking flow to try and help.

I am sorry if I am coming across as crossed, but someone is dead and that sucks for their family more than anyone being stuck in traffic. I have been working wrecks were drivers have tried to cut across cones and other warnings, putting the responders at great risk, all because they were late for something. So this is one of those things that gets to me quick. Someone dying and being stuck in traffic aren't even close to the same level of having a bad day.

That is standard for the last few years. Some agencies have it mounted so it blends in more than others.

I take no offense to your statement and agree I'm not taking away from the tragedy that occurred, it's more this is consistent of how these things happen, rather it's a motorcycle accident or a car accident it's normally horrible communication to help prevent more issues from people rubber necking to doing stupid things to get out of the traffic and so on. And yes there are apps and systems for such a thing but when you work 30 seconds from the on ramp, you don't think to start up an app to find out if you should get on or not, this is where it plays into communication and directions. They had time to start putting detour signs on side streets but only around cactus/shea, if you can traffic is backed up past frank Lloyd wright, maybe there needs to but further communication to help direct the 2 miles of straight cars trying to get off at cactus.

Again I understand in the grand scheme of things a life was lost and is way more valuable then the inconvenience I dealt with.

And just a legit question I know a lot of this conversation was about motorist being stupid and causing death and injuries to motorcyclist, but if it was a car vs car accident with a death would this conversation be still at this level about the incident?

Because that's my hang up is every event on our freeways seem to be handle pretty badly, which like you pointed out there tying to enhance and work on.

That is a good question. I think so, a death is a death, no matter how it happened. You usually see motorcycle accidents impact a road to a much greater extent, for two reason. 1) the scene is usually bigger. The car took longer to realize and stop or the bike bounced around more before coming to a stop, something like that. 2) Motorcycle injuries are usually much greater than a car occupants. So, they tend to treat them like fatalities from the very beginning, requiring more resources and taking up more space. Then, if the rider doesn't make it, they already have all the investigating done. If they do make it, it doesn't hurt to have the extra info.

I will admit, that a motorcycle crash hits closer to home for me than some. I ride, sometimes with my kids. Also, my wife road into work today, as she does most mornings. We aren't scared to ride, we wear gear all the time, and if it's our time, it's our time. I just don't want it to be by some Scottsdale, SUV, trying to do her makeup in traffic, while catching up on facebook.

You want to see traffic control done at it's very best, almost to the point of being an art form? Go to California, CalTrans knows how to handle traffic and they are Johnny on the spot for that sort of thing.

I saw all the brake lights on 101 this morning as I flew over, looked like fun!

On a side note it's 29 degrees in Minot ND and the wind is blowing. Breath taking it is :)

    Happy birthday Ryan!
