We have the pet friendly artificial grass and love it. It wasn’t cheap! It isn’t maintenance free, instead of cutting, we vacuum it. It gets hot in the summer without shade and water. This next winter I am putting in a mister system and shade over our dog run.

For you, I would say a patch of real grass and some shade. Use the Arizona sails for shade, cheap and easy and they last a long time. Then just one of the sprinklers that attaches to the hose, the ones we all jumped through as kids. A cheap electric mower. It’s to care for.

Our city bill is about $60 a month and we have a pool. Adding grass isn’t going to add much to the water bill. You water predawn for the grass and mid afternoon for the doggie. A cheap timer for the hose and your set.

I’ll add that you are welcome to come see our grass. We got a middle of the range, price wise, grass. 10 year warranty from fading. Which everyone we talked to said that it should last 20 years (double the warranty was a common phrase).

I think it was $3 a sq ft for just the grass. We did the demo and they did the install. Has 3 inches of sand under the “grass”. I don’t remember the install fee. We upgraded to have the no smell crystals put into the base layer. That reminds me. I need to call and have the. Drop off some more of that stuff, it’s been 3 years and it needs a booster.

We talked to 5 different companies, decided to go with Synlawn. They did a great job and we love it. Small backyard and trying to mow it on a regular bases would have been a pain. Let me see if I can find a pic real quick.

That's close to 1000 sq.ft. of artificial with 1250 sq.feet of pavers (rest is in the recessed patio). I think we spent around 3500 installed with borders, percolation, and proper underlayment materials for water abatement.

The trick is install, if the installer does a shit job with install, the turf can float if the water doesn't drain out fast enough. You also have to use sand periodically to weight it down so the wind doesn't try to balloon it and carry it away...

If you notice the paver blocks in the corner, that is to keep the idiot doggo from trying to peel back the corners. Dogs, so much love, sometimes hate...

It's weird looking at that picture now because the irrigation is buried, the wall is painted entirely, the low voltage lights are in now since then. We plant in a few months and the backyard is done.

One of the primary reasons I do not want to go tk Phoenix. I spent $360 last year on electric and water. My apartment is 67-70 all day.

You paid 3500 for the turf AND the pavers? Or just the turf?

I fucking wish! LoL That was just the border and turf. The whole hardscape package was close to 10k with the custom firepit with styling and bullnose cap. The retention wall was built by Jen and I, she kicked ass on that project. The gravel, well, I got stuck with that 22 tons which is why I have a Gorilla cart instead of a wheel barrel.
