Greenstuff pads or if you do a lot of towing, go to the Yellowstuff for trucks.

I've never been unhappy with Hawk pads and they make quite the variety for Tacomas too. They make a truck specific pad as well.

Porterfield also makes shoes in the R4S compound (!!!) which is frickin cool if you ask me, because hardly anyone wants to make performance compound drum shoes.

And no braided lines don't make much of a difference. If you're replacing them there's little reason to go rubber other than cost, but it's not the "night and day" experience a lot of people make it out to be. Tacomas already have excellent modulation characteristics because they have fixed opposing piston calipers, and not sliding calipers.

Yeah that's why I said there's little reason to go rubber other than cost.
Actually, rubber do have an advantage in the ease of inspection and overall longevity- it's quite obvious when a rubber line has an issue but an SS line can potentially hide a leak much more easily and still look like it is OK. The Stainless sleeve doesn't hold the fluid, it is a reinforcement for a teflon tube. Eventually the teflon starts start seeping too which is why ALL cars come with rubber lines always. (you don't think Porsche or Ferrari could afford to drop $100 on some sweet SS lines?)

How old were the rubber lines you replaced? Often times the difference in brake feel is way greater when the rubber lines are old- I've heard plenty of bitching from people who replaced week old rubber lines with SS and gone "where's my amazing upgrade in brake feel?!?!"
