I was considering a hook strap that says something funny (i have several ideas, but nothing yet that is just platinum level comedy) but I think I like your idea better. Lol.

As far as the wireless controller goes, I had to relocate the control box into the engine bay and winching with the hood up is not always an option so I've either got to wire my old dash controls back in and extend the remote plug to the bumper, or I just get the wireless and solve both problems. I'm leaning toward the wireless but its the part where you have to always have good batteries for the remote that I don't like. If the batteries die in the middle of a recovery then what was the point of paying for it in the first place?

Just get the wireless controller and keep some batteries in the glovebox or if it gets too hot, just make sure you bring some when you go out.

I hear ya, but that's the thing about knowing myself like I do. I'll forget and after having batteries sit in the truck for a few years, I wouldn't want to rely on that be my lifeline to getting home. I don't have the money right now anyway so I've got time to consider my options before I make a decision.

Sounds good. I know personally I'd be too lazy and then too pissed off to have to pop the hood in order to winch so I'm going to bite the bullet and go wireless.

@JeepAndrew wired in an on/off and an in/out switch on my dash for my old winch, so I could winch from inside the cab but the wiring harness for the warn is completely different than the smittybilt harness so I'd have to figure that out. And the other problem with doing it from in the cab is that you can't guide the cable into the drum so it spools evenly so I would always end up with the hood popped after the recovery so I could re-spool the cable. So my options are 1- re-wire the dash switches AND extend the plug from the control box, out to the bumper or 2. Go wireless and deal with the battery upkeep.

Why can't it be setup for both? If the wireless fails you always of the wired as a backup.

It can. The wireless controller has a transmitter that plugs into the control box. So if batteries fail you just plug in the wired controller and keep going. But at that point, what was the point in buying the wireless setup if you're just gonna end up plugging it in anyway? And if I'm gonna take the time and expense of running the wiring to the cab and bumper then I'm not wasting more money on the wireless.

I'm mainly just thinking out loud (on the internet). I like to do things once and be setup for hassle free and maintenance free (if possible) operation. I don't like having to mess with stuff constantly. To me, that just means that I didn't think through the original install thoroughly enough in the first place.

Yep, that's one of the options. If I go that route, then I'll rewire the dash switches in so I can go either/or.

Check out the current price on that thing though. Wireless remote is only like $20 more.
