Went camping up on the rim near Bear Canyon. Hiked to this spot, which is accessible by vehicle but I might want to invest in skids before hand. But our spot had a pretty good view too.

Wish the truck were ready. I would have come out for at least one night.

That said the truck will be ready this week so anyone up this way over summer hit me up and I’d love to meet up with some people.

When I drove by yesterday around 10:30 AM it was blocked by 4-5 FS and fire vehicles. I believe they were escorting people out of the area as well. The fire forecast map shows the fire working south towards the rim. (assuming this based on the proposed closure area being south of clints well vs north). All the roads south of the 87 up to at least Lake Mary Road CR3 were closed. This was a lightning fire and I believe the plan of attack is manage vs extinguish

EDIT, Since the fire is on the western edge I would think the eastern side is open to at least Woods Canyon lake. I do know the AZT has not issued any trail closures yet but expected this week. Smoke was blowing S/SSE though so I dont know if hanging out on the east rim would be very appealing.

You were not kidding that road was a mess, easily doable in 2wd with no mud, but was slow going. Did see a huge doe out there though.
