Fumoto goes on the pan drain...flip it open and do the filter while it drains. MotivX tools for the filter housing drain and element R/R.

Another tip...make sure the housing o-ring is in the correct groove when replacing, or you're gonna have a bad time!

Watching one of the newer MORR videos and they go to rescue a brand new Bronco that has a broken tie rod. Replacement time for a tie rod? 2 months.

I feel bad for any new Bronco owners who actually go using theirs and break something.

I was originally going to grab the aluminum filter housing too, until I did a bit more reading on it.

Now, since you do the oil changes yourself this is 99.5% not going to be an issue but the reason they use polymer is because it resists galling on the threads if overtorqued or otherwise abused. The disadvantage to the polymer being overzealous techs can snap those ears off on the outside, but since the MotivX tool doesn't engage the ears...

I figured save the $$$ for a bulk buy of filters. To each their own though, like I said 99.5% not gonna be an issue unless you let a lube monkey get after it.

Interesting points. Guess Ill decide which one to use when I change the oil next. How does one go about shutting off the maintenance light on the dash?

Take apart the dash and pop the led for the maintenance light off the circuit board. May only work for 2nd gen thoigh

I switched to the aluminum housing because the plastic one cracked when I removed it the first time. I blame myself for letting the dealer change the oil the first few times.

I might have all that stuff in storage I could sell you. Probably all brand new, I don't think I ever did an oil change on my third Gen.

The dealer tech overtorqued my polymer housing during the 20K service, and it cracked when I was changing at 25K...it took a 4' breaker bar and two people to get it loose (torque spec is 18#). Thankfully, I already had the aluminum housing on hand.

Good point about the galling, and even though it's pretty difficult to jack it up, never put anything past a lube monkey.

Exactly why my 2021 has never been serviced by anyone other than me. Happy to pass up on the free/included services/maintenance if it means I never have to pull out a 4' breaker bar to loosen a chunk of plastic!

Agreed! Hindsight being what it is, those two "free" oil changes were 100% not worth it...

I have to look up how to reset it every time on my 2nd gen because I forget the enter up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a and start secret passcode...... thinking that would be a bit more convenient

Mine stopped being able to reset at like 15k miles. Even the dealers couldn’t figure it out. Didn’t bother me too much but I eventually pulled the dash apart and popped the led off the circuit board
