I never grew up working on anything car related so its all pretty new to me, always was more convenient to have someone else work on it while I was at work but I figured this time I would give it a shot. I know its suppose to be easy but it really got the best of me lol. Couldn't do it without taking the tire rod off so had to go rent the tool and then couldn't get the old cvs to break free:rofl: also after all that we had bent what I think is the dust guard for the rotoer so it was making a metal grindning noise we thought was the new cvs

I didnt grow up doing it either. Just taught myself and lots of youtube videos. Cv's can either be super simple or a royal pain in the arse. Once you see how they work and are locked in it gets way easier next time. @prise and I handled one for a friend and from tire of to back on was 30 min. Sometimes they just cooperate.

We woke up yesterday and had a few screw drivers. Took a 4hr nap. Got up and walked the dogs, had an early dinner and watched a movie and went to bed. First day in a long time we didn't work all day.

I suspect that's how we all learned...

I had a 1961 F100 when I was 16...I had to learn real fast if I wanted to drive it and keep it on the road. It was a death trap, but hey, I didn't die despite my best efforts

We had auto hobby shops on base when I was in the Navy. Evolved from fixing broke ass shitboxes to racing Mustangs and Camaros...it was pretty cool to wrench your own shit with everything you need right there for a few bucks.

    Yep!

CVs in my Sequoia were cake, but I've fought a war with them on a buddy's Taco, and GM CVs are stupid easy every time. Not looking forward to the front wheel bearings on the Sequoia, but that gives me an excuse to buy a press :D

I need a press. I always just buy the full bearings from a dude on here. The wheel bearings were toast in the 97 when I just did the full front end rebuild a few months back. I just had the shop next to my work do them since it was already on the lift and they were doing the alignment.

I wish the Sequoia bearings were the pop-n-swap variety, but nope...gotta take off the spindle, press out the hub, then press out the bearing...super massive pain in the sack, and you can easily torch the new ones if you're not careful.

Yeah thats why I had the shop take care of it. Didnt want to fuck with it. Or the other option is a dude on here that sends full new spindles with them pressed in and you send him yours. But thats 1st gen taco 3rd gen runner stuff. How much longer you have till youre going to tackle that?

    It still rolls, so...

It just recently started the telltale "wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh" sound, so I'm probably living on borrowed time. The inner seals had some pieces cracked off when I did the CVs, so I knew I was going to be in for some fun very soon.

I am considering a 2007 Sequoia, they say the center Diff actuator is bad and that part looks to be about $700 online. Have you ever rebuilt yours?

I haven't, but it's pretty easy to take it apart and clean up/lube. That solves the issue a lot of times...same with the front actuator. Terminal corrosion could also be a factor.

Are they sure it's the center diff? Not sure how familiar you are with the 4WD system on that vintage (2005-07)...it's a bit unique.

I dont have room ha! Actually this rig is going to be for a 6-12 month trip were taking this year starting March-ish. Everything else will be parked during that time. After the trip we’ll either sell this or rent it like a Turo for offroad/camping kinda thing.

I have zero just looking at getting another camping rig and I plan to gut the inside like the Suboverland builds. The ad for the one I want just says that's the problem and I did a little online sleuthing, but thought I would ask since you also have the 07

My opinion is that if it isn't beat to shit, maintenance neglected, or frame rusted, it's well worth it...I got lucky with mine, but still had to put in some time and money to get it up to my standards.

There is just something rad to waking up with snow outside the tent. You all had way more than we did, but when my daughter and I opened up the tent and looked outside - it was magical! I was showing her Buckskin Gulch area, hiked Wire Pass and down Buckskin Gulch quite aways. Washing hands with slushy water was not fun, but those are minor inconveniences ;o)
