    IMHO

If you were to broadcast from your house, use the same call sign and be an ass about it, eventually someone might track you down and fine you.

If you were to use it while driving around, switch up call signs, and behave, chances of any sort of enforcement are slim to none

This isn't like registering your AR pistol with the ATF...just pay the $35 and be done with it.

Makes sense. Just curious as to why they require a fee for it.

I don't care about the cost. Was more wondering as to 'why'. I don't like the FCC so was curious as to what bullshit excuse they were giving for this.

Paid the fee, applied for the "license" I guess im just waiting on them to send me a call sign?
$35 for 10yrs is nothing to play nice
Now to figure out the frequencies and setting up my channels.
    Lots to learn

Identification and agreeance to follow the rules. When you have gear able to broadcast a 50+ mile range they want some control over it. Would kinda suck if you had infomercials playing non stop on every frequency with no regulations

So what's a decent gmrs radio? I need two or three of them. I'd like a portable model.

Midland has portables. But from my experience (Fire) portables work okay but mobiles allow you to reach further and clearer. I’m no radio genius but I know when I’m in a remote area, if my portable can’t hit the repeater on our rig I can get out period.

I want to be able to use it in my side by side, quad, different trucks.

With handled range what are we taking about here? I doubt we'd ever be more than 15 miles apart. CB has failed us a few times.

Cb sucks lmao it depends on terrain honestly. Rule of thumb is line of sight for most hand helds. Unless you’re hitting repeaters. Again I’m not 100% on this information, I’m just speaking on my own experiences with hand helds.
