That Straw Man is carrying a lot of weight I see. It's impressive to see a problem that affects the entirety of the Colorado River Basin being boiled down to one guy and some hurt feelings. Phew.

Ortega is doing what he is supposed to be doing. Protecting his constituents, the very people who fund his office via their taxes, something Rio Verde does not do. Scottsdale residents (as do we all) also face impending water cuts, mandated by the federal government passed down through the state government, due to the quantity of water flowing in the literal lifeline of the Southwest.

In your original post, you said the change resulted in water being 'expensive af' while here you say the change makes it 'a bit more expensive'. So, which is it? If it is simply a bit more expensive then I don't see the need to complain. Factor that cost into your plan and move on with the process.

Don't get me wrong, water scarcity is a problem that is going to impact just about everyone in the American Southwest, at some point. It's simply the depressing reality that it is going to happen to the weakest among us first, i.e. the unincorporated community. Which by its very nature has no political representation, a must-have if you do not want to be at the absolute mercy of those who possess something (whether it be the raw material, or the infrastructure necessary to make that raw material useful) that is so vital to you. Literally everything has a price, and sometimes it isn't measured in dollars.

I see your second post and can't help but also side with Ortega as well. The water you are able to pump out of the ground from your 1 acre piece of land is not the water that is solely contained underneath that 1 acre. It comes from wherever that aquifers particular boundaries are, which very well may be underneath the City of Scottsdale itself. Letting a Canadian company pump it out of the ground hurts Scottsdale's own ability to withdraw from the same aquifer.

It's as if you offered to fill my Tacoma with gas (the water that can be pumped out of the ground), as well as give me $1,000 (buying the water back for a premium), on the condition that I let you abuse my truck to its overall detriment (the overall depletion of available water that is legally Scottsdale's). You look surprised and stunned when I say 'No', thinking to yourself, 'But I'm talking a whole tank of gas, and 10 Benjamins, what the hell?', failing to realize that it has nothing whatsoever to do with the paltry sum being offered, as it relates to the overall value of the system at hand.

The Tacoma costs a helluva lot more than $1,080, just as the security associated with having access to water is worth far more than selling it away for a premium.

Idk about a Canadian company but one of the companies in which I am familiar is a corridor local and a fellow firefighter. I’m inclined to trust his word over politicians. That’s just me. Drilling a well is expensive af, shipping it in is less expensive which is why every transplant opts for that.

I personally am not complaining about any of it because I know that in any event there will be water. It’s just over sensationalized. I honestly don’t understand the hype. It’s just all these transplants that want the rural life with out the rural problems.

So far nothing :fingerscrossed: but that’s why everything is shut down. There’s Box Bar camp ground that we run into a lot with squatters.
