Good to hear that you're getting some leads, Josh. Fingers crossed.

Just a rear locker. Maybe I should try Raw Deal next. Would you rate that one the least difficult out of them?

Got lockers, sliders, AND body protection? Otherwise, you may not like a lot of the obstacles in a mid length wheel base truck. Look on YouTube to give you an idea of what is out there.

Now I think I need a beater truck for some of the trails.

Raw Deal doesn't look that bad. I'd definitely want to run it with someone that has run it before though. How's the buggy coming Ryan?

That video is very misleading. That guy leading the trail is taking awful lines. On the second obstacle filmed, you can see a stock looking 2nd gen 4Runner in blue.

I am in the secondary wheeler, alternate vehicle camp now. I hung up the Jeep hat for a bit to decide what and how I want to build my next trail rig while I pay off debt. I really want a buggy, I just don't have the time to bend tube or weld it up right now so I will probably buy a well loved stock, inexpensive JK two door when the new JL drops and build that in a very spartan sense focusing only on beefed up 44's or maybe even a 14/60 junkyard axle build if I can find them when the time comes. I still really want a SxS too, so that will be a tough decision because I wont be able to swing both at the same time.

It would be nice to have a decent trail rig that you don't care about to beat on and then trailer home.

A non fist fooked TJ is hard to find anymore. Once in a great while you can find that unicorn that some older couple flat towed behind their motor home for 50k miles and now retired for a nice new Grand Cherokee. Otherwise, most of them are in rough shape. I'd love to get my grubby mitts on a clean LJ. That's like winning the lotto.

Honestly, if they didn't hold their value so damn well, I'd build a 4R like the ones pictured above. Once again, finding an umolested project is near impossible, and if you do, well... $$$

An 83-84 Toyota pick up is cheap, parts are easy to find. 5 or 6k gets you one lifted on 35's with duals. I've definitely thought about it recently, but owning 2 trucks that should be dedicated wheelers isn't very smart.

That's why I went 2WD on the turd gen, I won't be tempted to do a full build knowing it's wasted money and will ruin daily driver pleasure. If it was 4WD, I'd already be going stupid on it with parts to make it a trail truck. I have no desire to go that route with a 2WD. I am just doing little things that make it look better while I work out my long term plan to get back on the trails in a dedicated pleasure toy that I won't stress out about like I did the JK the first time. It may be a while, but, it will be more pleasurable with a paid off beater than a financed Jeep.
