Maaan, I ended up not going. I’ve been fighting a cold for the past three weeks and I felt drained all Saturday. I tried to suck it up and go anyways but proceeded to sit in parking traffic for 15 minutes before they told me I was in the wrong line. I got pissed off and went home and was in bed by 9.

Oh man, I am sorry to hear that.. That traffic was no joke.. We parked at the hotels across Glendale and walked in, even the foot traffic was insane. Hope you get to feeling better. It had to be close to a sold-out show.
That was my first time in that arena and seeing Metallica was a full experience! Suicidal Tendencies and Five Finger Death Punch were just as good! Bad Company live is FIRE!

I’ve seen FFDP live before, they were the band before the headliner, avenged sevenfold. They put on a better show than them! They brought a little kid up on stage to sing “burn motherfucker burn motherfucker burn.”

I highly recommend earplugs. I can directly attribute hearing loss to Dave Ghrol at the last Foo concert here in Phoenix. I can no longer hear mosquitos

I used to always have earplugs in my pocket when I was working in the field. Then when I got into the office, it was no longer part of my edc

REI Chandler has two Dometic 45 fridges for $570 in their return section if anyone is looking

They come with the plugs and look like they are in pretty good condition. The tags say they tested them and work fine

Thought I'd move this to the general talk.

Call me crazy be we're going the Colorado route. Landed about 1:30 east of Denver. Camping at a North Sterling CO state park tonight. Tomorrow we're going to Moab via I-70. Please pray for the breaks on the u-haul truck. We're going to spend some time at Arches National Park and maybe pull the truck off the trailer for a trail if there is time.

Then will be dropping down to AZ on 191, 163,160,89 to Flag.

I don’t know how familiar you are with towing but what I found worked well for me was to not ride the brakes at all on steep descents. I’d drop some gears and let it engine brake the best it could to maintain speed and once it would hit 60 mph, I would do a moderate brake down to 50 mph, and then let it creep back up to 60.

I think this is what you’re supposed to do but fuck if I actually know.

^^^ Thats what I did on my way down 87 in the uhaul and down the 17 in my truck hauling trailers. Didn't have any brake issues.

I agree with "gearing down". U-haul is a beast meant to drag an F-150 and be full to the brim. Means the transmission can take abuse.

Take it slow and easy ... rest as needed and change drivers as needed. With such a heavy gas pedal and no cruise control one person tires easily.

If you want a reason to take a driving break, you could stop in Flagstaff and hop into Walnut Canyon (abandoned Indian housing cut into the center tower of a bundt-cake mold of a canyon). Or not.

This is how I always tow also. The uhaul has very good engine breaking and I was surprised.

Actually got one with cruise control. Other then it riding like a lumber wagon it hasn't bee too bad so far. Unfortunately it's just me in the truck my wife is driving her car. I can do about 9 hours before I've had enough for the day.

Thanks for the POI in Flag, not sure if we're stopping there this trip though. Will give a reason to go back!

Was a beautiful morning in CO

Yeah I would just try to get to the destination and not make any side quests. But remember where they are. This state has so much to explore and get out and do. As for the towing you are doing fine. Just be mentally prepared for I-17. Like others have said just take it slow and hang out in the right lane. Dont get into a rush cause everyone else is speeding.

Good news is you are driving into typical PHX weather for September ... 100-105, dry. Once you get past the Flagstaff could-be-wet weather just above the Mogollan Rim (a "ledge" running east-west across the state, the drop-off from the ledge into PHX is that 8000-ft-to-1200-ft event).
