Do people ditch the front bar on 4Runners? That seems aggressive on a vehicle with 4 coil springs.

I dont have a bar on the front or the back. Body roll for days! But I can barely go over 60 mph down hill and 25 up hill so :notsure:

Interesting. I knew it was common on leaf sprung vehicles(my taco doesnt have a swaybar) but didnt know people did it with all coils.

I haven't messed with mine yet, but my other buddies said ditching the front is similar to the tacoma. It's when you ditch the rear that you really get some roll.

Bizarrely it looks like the best combo on the runner is no front sway and leaving the stock sway bar in the rear. The slight amount of flex you lose in the rear is made up for by more flex up front because it keeps the vehicle more level.

There's a YouTube channel that tested this with travel ramps and everything.
    Screenshot_20240314_085608_YouTube.jpg

The IFS up front is basically the same as the Taco.

This all depends on how I feel the car handles when I ditch the front bar, really. With my OEM suspension on the Taco it was sketchy, with the Fox 2.5s I had it was exciting but gravy.

Oh man, is it this guy? I haven't seen the video yet, but have seen some of his others. I love how he approaches his experiments and how well he articulates his process and results to his audience.

I figured as much. And besides it's not my first rodeo but I don't know how ret- ahem "special needs" valley dwellers get when white sky water is nearby.

Should I still swing by the cinders or hit it on the way back home? Wasn't planning on much more than showing up, looking at the black sand, taking a picture and doing a donut then leaving.

What time you planning on being around flagstaff at? Atleast for over here in show low its a rain snow mix. so accumulation on the side of the roads with wet roads. The morning might see some ice but that will burn off quick. And I bet everyone will still be driving fast and passing people like assholes. I have no idea about the cinders. I am no help.

That's a great video, I just finished it. I was doing something similar on my truck, where I had 500 lb coils on my long travel front but slightly stiffer leafs than necessary in the back to try and give it some balance. That other FJ in the video with the custom rear sway bar is pretty killer.

@EatSleepTacos i pick up the similar Trail Gear rear diff armor like you had on Ole betty, the weld on one.. Did you make anything that wrapper under to get the front of the diff under the pinion any protection? I know it would have to be a bolt on scenario as I'll need to pull the diff out for any service in the future.

Or anyone have anything they can share a pic of? I make my own shit if I can! I know RCI makes one that attaches to the axle and wraps around.
EDIT yes I'm googling them, just making conversation as well!

I didn't add anything to the front and never had any issues. I had a few scraped bolts both on the DS/pinion as well as the third member, but it never caused any troubles. I did make a drain bolt cover. I cut out a circle of 1/8" plate and welded it over the drain bolt with a few fat tacks. It was easy to remove come service time and it prevented my drain plug from loosening as well as the outer plug ring getting smashed in. One time my plug loosened from dragging ass so much that I had to tighten it and add fluid mid trail ride. Luckily I noticed.
