    Good morning, fellas.

I just replaced my serpentine belt, and now I have a grinding noise on cold starts. I checked my idler pulleys and did not feel shot, but they were definitely worn. I'm going to start there and replace all three, but at least now, I'm not stuck somewhere. Is getting the parts from Toyota worth the money, or is RA good enough?

was the grinding sound present before you replaced the belt?

Is it possible to misroute the belt? I'm not under it at the moment. When I first started it, it looked correct and was quiet. Then, after it sat overnight, it made a grinding noise.

I've seen a post on here somewhere that showed a misrouted belt IIRC. What is odd is that the grinding stops after a few seconds. Do you start the truck with the AC on?

In that case, I think your suspicion about the pulleys may be correct. I would still pull the belt off and spin the pulleys individually to see if in fact they are the culprit. it would suck to spend the money to replace them and you still encounter that noise.

Should also try to put sideways pressure on the pulleys when you check... sometimes bearings will be just worn feeling while loose but tension will make them rough and gritty.

I'd say a pulley. New belt, more tension, worn pulley starts making noise. Seems to add up.

Honestly I'm of the opinion that it's hard to "over-maintain" a Toyota, they'll last long past 250 it's just the little things here and there get worn down. Hoses crack, bearings wear, etc.

I'd stay with Toyota oem for new pulleys.

Dayum. They’re my go to for non-oem window motor replacements. I thought they were quality.

I seem to recall window regs was the one department that wasn't pants-on-head, hilariously.

Basically the prevailing attitude was "find an overseas supplier, dock to stock, as long as it doesn't kill someone"

There was someone on a DSM forum who got a control arm from us that looked like it was stick welded together by a blind child, he took very detailed pictures and put us on blast. Our first article from the vendor looked nothing like that but we didn't care enough to verify.

You might get lucky though, we sometimes got OEM parts that "fell off a truck" and "hit an angle grinder that took the OEM casting marks off" on the way down.

I will take that information into consideration when purchasing parts.

I order a set of Koyo's. Ironically, they ship from phoenix. The set of three is the cost of one from the dealer
