That is why I asked "in PHX" ... even Army-surplus stores serve a useful purpose despite what some may say.

I shouldn't complain too much, some of the MRE's aren't horrible and they are an easy solution but they can be expensive. I carried an MRE in my truck for many years in case of an emergency and I still have a couple cases on the shelves in the top of my pantry for the same reason

"Emergency food" is never a bad idea. One of the posts in that camping thread was about freeze-dried packs (one each, per meal) was carried by the Boy Scout group, all packs dumped into a common pot. The standing rule was "eat what we are making or do not eat ... made the children get over their pickiness quickly".

Thanks. Not sure I want to, but looking at options ... despite the fact I will be truck camping before backpacking and will initially have more room for suuplies.

After you clean it up, you can get a small bottle of UV dye off Amazon for like $10 that'll do several jobs. Hit it with a blacklight after a couple hundred and it's really good for finding seeping leaks.

Noticed this on the suspension on my truck. I believe they're Fox 2.0's. They were on the truck when I bought it. The bushings are dried the hell out.

Is this anything to be worried about? Should I count on replacing the cracked rubber soon?

Also, how the hell do I thumbnail images so they're not so huge?

I would replace the rubber since you do not know how much damage they have caused. The pictures should be that large, at least this time, to see the details.

What kind of damage could dried up bushings cause? Do you think any mechanic shop can take care of this or should I bring it to one that specializes in suspension/offroading stuff?

Do not know about the mechanic, but ... rubber bushings are on engine mounts and shock mounts to isolate parts from vibration. I let the dried engine mount bushings go on my Corolla because the car had 200k miles. There was an occasional <click> when I shifted from R to D because of engine shifting. Who knows how much accumulated vibration damage was really there?

You can change them without lifting your truck. Cheap and easy. They can prevent your shocks from bouncing everywhere.

Unfortunately it's just me and I don't have the time or money in case something goes wrong. The rear look like they'd be easy, not so sure about the front.

Tomorrow I'll try to see if I can locate part #'s.

Yeah, sorry the rear would be easy but the stock fronts are a different story.

Personally I am a little biased against MREs, after spending some time eating them non-consensually courtesy of uncle sam.

After you eat one or two likely you wont eat one again for a while

Backpacking meals have come a really long way, can be bought cheap at walmart, and if you cycle through them camping you wont waste any.

I dont like tuna, so I keep a couple of those tuna meal kits in the truck.
I know I will only eat it in an emergency and not just because I forgot my lunch

Yeah ... the Mountain House and Peak Refuel are not bad. Peak refuel seems to absorb the water better than Mountain House, and the food seems OK for both but price gets high. MRE is just an "intellectual curiosity", not an intended part of my strategy ... and I AM prepared for it to be a mistake. :puke:

I want to try making packages from fresh food myself as well. Reading from the camping thread those who did speak of their fellows with freeze-dried being green with envy over chicken-cube/spaghetti/tomato-sauce or chicken-cube/tortilla/tomato-sauce pizza. I will start my self-training close to civilization so I can make major errors but just pack the bed tent back up, tuck tail and go home.
