That is maximum zoom ... it is barely an inch long.

 

The small ones are worse. They don't let up when they sting. Smash em.

 

Never been stung by one. I also have never been helicoptered out of anyplace I hiked. That makes an easy comparison of "how bad is it?".

Yet another thing you will not miss when you move to Maryland/Idaho/Oregon/Hawaii/Colorado/Utah ...

 

Unless you are allergic to them, young, old, or a compromise immune system, then it's just a horribly bad sting and the area around swells. It's not like being bitten by a rattler.

I've never been stung by one, but they give me creeps. The fact you can see them with a black light makes it even worse for me. They're the equivalent to a sewer roach when it comes to being left on earth after nuclear fallout. Figuratively speaking, not much out there chemically that will penetrate their exoskeleton.

I did not miss them one bit when I lived in Utah or NE Oklahoma.

 

You know, I was thinking @05tacomabro would shed some light on who's it is, but that sounds like it's a negative.

 

Do not have them invading the house I rent ... though now you talk about it I know it is possible. I covered the unused drains on my ground-floor apartment because roaches were all over the grounds when I would walk to the mailbox.

I tell "new" people on the hiking trails that Arizona is trying to kill them. I sometimes forget about the non-snakey critters.

 

We've got scorpions in Utah

They are pretty much all over the US

I used Bifen IT mixed with an insect growth regulator called Tekko Pro. Ordered from do my own pest control or a similar website. Mix them in a 1 gallon sprayer and do the entire perimeter of house and a few feet up the house.

That seemed to take care of nearly everything including scorpions, spiders, roaches, ect.

 

My nephew was stung by a scorpion when he was 5yrs old. It took us a few minutes to figure out what was going on since he had gone to take a bath. He was pointing to his feet, so we thought he'd turned the water too hot. Nope, it was a scorpion. We did learn he's not allergic to them at least. He turns 12 at the end of this year. Crazy how time flies.

I'm an uncle 4x now with 1 niece and 3 nephews. My sister is happy to have only one girl.
