This sounds ridiculous, but I’ve never had a set of tires as old as this and wanted to see if this is a normal amount of dry rot given the dry climate. These are just over three years old, manufactured fall of 2021.

I don’t think these are gonna fail at any moment, but it it’s abnormal I’ll replace them before tread wears down. Wanted the TW desert rats input.

Yeah totally normal. No need to worry until the cracks start opening up and we used to tell customers that 4 years is about what you can expect in the desert... especially if the vehicle parks outside.

Ok perfect, sort of what I expected. They were similarly cracked when I bought the truck a year ago, but not quite as bad. I don’t drive much so figured I’d go another year before replacing.

    I'll take one. :101010:

Toyo AT3, yep normal. Mine did that after 2 years. Already on my second set as I can only get about 30k out of them. SL 265/70/16

Even rainy PNW, garage kept, mine are doing the same thing but maybe not as bad after 3 years. Hope to make it through one last winter then replace. Just developed an annoying slow leak on the front passenger side tho.

Spent a while scraping the wheel weights and their leftover sticky goo, holy crap even copious goo gone and some plastic razor blades had a tough time cutting thru it.

I saw a number of spots where one of the tire monkeys hammered at it with a screwdriver and went "ah fuck it"

I'm gonna try touching them up. Clean the absolute piss out of them to as brand new as I can make em, gives me something to turn my brain off and just do on the weekends, vs video games or something.

Needs 41” military tires, like 4 winches, rear seat delete for dog crates, 17 molle panels, two on board air systems, at least one offroad floor jack, mobile welder, 1000 gallons of freshwater, 6 pairs of traction boards, and the entire headliner filled with velcro patches or youre gonna have a bad time.

Will probably do some sort of solar setup once we recover from the purchase a little.

I've commented on here multiple times about my crazy MPG issues.

I've been getting around 15 and 16 MPG. Then yesterday I gas up and head up to Crown King. On the freeway I got 22.7 which is amazing and mind blowing if you are getting 15ish normally. And that was going UP HILL. And yes with the AC on. Wheeled around for probably 4 hours up there. Let the truck idle when we stepped out to snag some pics or take a whizz. When I was done airing back up (which also required idling). the MPG on the dash read 17. How did I get better MPG off road?

Then of course we hit the freeway and it was down hill so by the time I got home it was up to 19 mpg.

It's due for an oil change so I'm done playing games. Going to take it to Camelback Toyota and see if they will look at what Bell Road ignores and if they can't tell me why it's perpetually low under normal / light / easy driving conditions and then apparently fantastic off road, I'm going to seriously look at getting a tune.
