It’s on the list! I have new ball joints already, just need to get the garage set up.

Eventually we want to separate the body from the frame and clean up the surface rust. We want the FJ to live forever.

We did all we could with what we hauled with us. The movers are unloading the rest right now. Then it’s lots of organizing and whatnot

People also know more trails, but here is a guide for when you want to choose for yourself. Toyota dealers carry them, RideNow in Gilbert, off-roading shops carry them ... https://funtreks.com/product/guide-to-arizona-backroads-4-wheel-drive-trails-3rd-edition/

Nights in PHX will get bone-chilling 40s by late-December/January ... briefly ... but I think you will bear up well enough.

    Thanks for the link!

It’s already below freezing in NH, so this is like summer (more like fall) to us!

On the other hand ... May-thru-mid-October is extremely low humidity hot (not joke about "It is a dry heat") and June-August is hazardous for those just arrived. Too may die on trails because "it cannot be THAT bad walking under clear sky in 105 degrees from 9AM-3PM". You will adapt, just take it easy your first summer and have more water than you think you need ... an amount that will go up as you learn.

Hiking trails stay open 24 hours a day in many places (South Mountain Park, Piestewa Peak) as long as you just hike and do not piss off the people living beside the trail. Just look for the in-gates that do not close (out-gates almost never close for PHX city parks).

All great information, thank you kindly!

We both work in the trades and are planning on having plenty of water at all times. Not playing around with overheating or dehydration issues!

We were out here in May for a few days and it was hot, but didn’t seem unbearable (and I was probably drinking way more water than I’d ever need)

May for a newbie is still interestingly warm. And the monsoon humidity makes the heat even less bearable. The OP should be informed of the "Stupid Driver" law that makes driving into well-marked flooded roads a cost of upwards of $2500 of the "tow out" costs to the city. Quite a change from the desperately dry times otherwise.

What I still find remarkable is how once it gets hot it just stays hot seemingly FOREVER, until suddenly the temperatures drop into and stay in the 60s/70s in October/November. Reminds me of how summer break from school seemed to last forever ... until it just stopped ... as a kid.

That was something I noticed during my trip to NC a few months ago. Even though it's humid, the temps actually drop at night. Here in AZ it hangs on the to heat overnight and preheats for the following day. I'm thankful for the rain here the past couple of days. That really helped to knock the temps cooler.

Heat is expected here in AZ. I should stop complaining about it. :anonymous: Don't go to the lake if you don't want to get wet as they say.

There are limits to that thinking. I have only been here since January 2021, but I recall very wet monsoons ... so wet that the next year the hiking trails were covered in caterpillars (could hardly step without crushing them) and swimming pools were floating mats of caterpillars. And some years mosquitos swarmed remote hiking sections that seemed too dry overall for them.

And them we have the dry years where they called monsoon "non-soon".

Hard to tell what each year brings.

Not sure which trades you're in but I can vouch that it's not as bad as everyone seems to make it sound. This was my second summer here coming from north east Ohio.
Manage your a/c use, I run my truck about 76° in the dead of summer and the house is set for 78°-80° that'll help your body adjust and not be as shocked when you step out into the heat.
Light weight, hooded "sun shirts" have kept my ass from frying like a lobster. Trying to manage sunscreen while working in the heat is unrealistic in my experience. Just cover your skin up.
Beware of areas of still air. You'll get smoked 4x faster if your working in a spot with no air circulation.
Find an electrolyte additive that you like. Replacing salt is my biggest struggle. Peak heat I'm downing close to 2000mg of sodium just to not have headaches and cramps. Liquid iv, lmnt, tailwind, sal-t, waterboy, all pretty much the same stuff just find a flavor you like.

Oh and I will add that you should go switch out your license as soon as you can get over to do it. Put your physical address on it and go buy some sweet pew pews

Just be aware that AZ is just east of an occupied territory where a magazine holding more than 10 rounds means you OBVIOUSLY have bad intentions. Learn about "on-roster guns" and regulations about transporting 10-round-max magazines and weapons in locked carrying cases.

You are clearly an evil person, KingOfTheNorth. :duel:
