I'd just make sure you got insurance and I'd send it. As long as you have a bill of sale and insurance you should be fine. If you get pulled over just show that and i think most cops would be good.... at least in az. Driving through cali might be different though.

This is my concern. He said I can apply for a permit to just drive it out of Cali then I can register it here.

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
I've never done it before, but would it be more cost effective just to tow it to AZ with a buddy and drive it the rest of the way?

I had a vehicle that was Non-Oped transferred to me in California.
I tried to get the Temporary Operating Permit from CA DMV https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/vehic...als-and-placards/temporary-operating-permits/ but when I went to do so they hit me with all sorts of back fees tied to the vehicle and refused to issue the permit unless I paid thousands in fees.

I looked at the AZ MVD but it didnt seem like they had a solution for me https://azdot.gov/mvd/services/vehicle-services/vehicle-registration/vehicle-permits so I wound up just trailering it out.

I will say that so long as the title is clean AZ was fine with the title transfer. I suppose I still owe CA for whatever fees they dreamed up but thats their problem not mine

I inherited my C5 when my uncle passed away, and had to drive it to AZ from CA. He had a motorcycle that he would register, but would move the annual decal to the C5 when he wanted to drive it, so it hadn't been actively registered for like 10 years. Like @Twitch57 mentioned, CA wanted to charge me all kinds of [imaginary] fees for a temp tag (even after probate), so I just drove that bitch back to AZ with expired tags. I had the title, and got an AZ 3 day permit for it, just in case...

Yeah I cant express my hatred for that state enough.
Thousands of dollars of fees on a vehicle that had been no-oped and parked while I was living elsewhere working for uncle sam
I really enjoyed politely telling the DMV lady that I would not be giving them a single penny for that BS

Good info boys, I appreciate it! Seller says he'll take care of all the "fees" and the CA permit looks to be 80 bucks. I'm 100% with both of you in just driving it out. My wife on the other hand... She's the ruler of all things insurance/registration/etc. Lol. She'd feel better driving it back with some type of permit/Reg.

I think I'd try to do the CA permit.. and worst case say... Well.. we gotta get home somehow... Lol

I plan on flying 1 way..

I can tell you if you're to get it registered in Arizona. It will require a Level II or Level III inspection. You can only make an appointment online, and they require you to have a 3 day permit when you go get the inspection done. You'll get a restored title once it passes. Let me know if you need pointers on the process.

Also, depending on insuranse they can be hard to deal with when you have a non-operable, salvaged, and even a restored title.

I remember seeing some cop movie where the dirty cop folds junk mail in half and pretends its a warrant.
Ive definitely never done that to placate the wife wanting to make sure I do things "the right way"

Only thing I would add is the whole process is a lot more fun in a county that doesnt hassle you about smog...

Yeah, that is true. Arizona does allow you to go to any of their inspection centers to do the inspection. I was having issues with trying for the Phx area, so I was looking at Payson, Globe, Flag, Prescott/Cottonwood areas to get it done. ADOT's site is jacked. It's like a small part-time job that doesn't pay you going on the website to find a time slot. Slots magically show up and go away quickly. You have to search each inspection center instead of the entire state for appointments.

I'm not worried about all that. It'll be registered as a Historic immediately. I just need to get it here. It's driving. Has a title. Etc.

So what you’re saying is your wallet is gonna get some… “massaging”… from the gas pump
I had a cheapie for probably 8 years that was great.

I have a caliraised bar on my FJ now which has been flooded for 4+ years, partially burnt out, and still works like a champ. Best part is, I reached out to them about it being flooded and they sent me a new one without any hassles. Just waiting for this one to croak before I replace it :notsure:
Get the seller to sign and send you a bill of sale or sales agreement, then get a temporary plate in AZ. When we bought the 97 Impreza, we did paperwork with the seller online, got a temporary plate in New Hampshire, and drove the car away from Tucson same day

We thought about that too as a backup.. but flying 1 way, having my uncle pick us up and we stay with him, then we drive it back is the cheapest, quickest option. tickets into Huntington are cheap if we get them now and fly out next thursday.

Anybody in the market for a cheap daily driver? We're going to sell our Nissan Rogue. Its a 2013 but only has 40,000 miles. SV with SL Sport package so it has every option, nav(although the screen is hard to read and small), sunroof, leather, roof rack, awd. But the clearcoat is peeling. 4 banger that gets really good gas mileage. Would be a great first car for a kid, its very slow ha. I just put brand new tires on it less than 500 miles ago. Fancy Michelins. Has always been serviced at Nissan. Was owned by my wifes parents and handed down, thus the low miles. KBB value is $6800-9800. Would love to make a quick sale to someone on TW for $6000. If not Ill probably list it around $8000 and suffer through a private saleIMG_4783.jpg IMG_4784.jpg IMG_4786.jpg IMG_4787.jpg .

It does, unfortunately, but the miles are low enough that it should be good for quite a while.

Been through that with Nissan. Not to "cramp your style" here but I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I definitely support your decision to sell it though! Had ours go out at about 74,000. Cheapest to fix it or replace it was 8 to 10k. Great vehicles for the first 60k. After that... nope. Good luck with the sell.
