If it was get damn near nothing for my truck or 7k to get it back on the road I'd do 7 in a heartbeat. At least once you're at IFT if some issue happens, it's just a Toyota shouldn't be hard to find a shop capable enough.

My 2020 leaks. My Mom’s RX350 leaks. That will leak too. If the guy cannot reseal the front without fucking it up, he shouldn’t be putting the motor in, it’s not an advanced job.

Plastic housings crack coming off, even hand tight. They get incredibly tight after heat cycling hundreds of times. The aluminum does not.

He is doing the clutch now. It takes 10 minutes and under $100 to replace the coolant pipe with the motor out…

I recently switched from SLLC to Valvoline Zerex Asian red coolant. It works just fine.

The SLLC seemed to be a little thicker and has seems to have some type of additive to seal up any leaks, but I think as long as you keep the system clean and the coolant changed on a regular basis you'll be fine with whatever asian coolant brand you pick.

Like I said, it was my $0.02...I was simply providing another perspective...take it or leave it, I don't care.

My 2018 doesn't leak, my son's ES350 doesn't leak, and a friend's RX350 doesn't leak...just proves that nothing is an absolute. My point was that there is no sense pulling apart a non-leaking front cover just because of a maybe. Address it if it ever becomes a problem...but hey, that's just me.

Albeit a sample size of one, my 2018 has never had an issue with the composite housing, or being overly tight, but I do all the servicing. Don't disagree on the aluminum housing, only that it isn't necessary unless A) it's problematic or B) a personal preference.

No argument on the crossover...way easier when it's out, to your point.

What's the part number for the crossover? I talked to him yesterday when I dropped it off, and he said he can probably do everything. I'll hold off on the aluminum filter housing, I can swap that whenever.

Oh, and I ordered a catch can from J&L

IIRC, 16356-31051...I'd verify the p/n for the year of the "new" engine, though.

RE: Composite oil filter housing the only 2 caveats to switching to aluminum...

    1. A lot of people mix up the filter heights and standpipe heights in the housing and basically yolo something together that for all intents and purposes bypasses their oil filter.

    About 10 minutes in:

    2. If the aluminum housing ever gets over torqued, it is going to gall both threads, not just ruin the composite. Now you have an actual part bolted to the block that has galled threads.

For that reason I stick with my composite housing, do all the oil change intervals myself, and watch for any issues.

The composite filter housing works just fine. Mine lasted almost 9 years before one of the tabs broke. I bought another composite one.

The trick is to keep a spare in the tool box just incase, so you're not stuck on a Sunday when you decide to change your oil last minute before work the following day. :anonymous:

I just saw that Colby passed away.

Colby and his wife are/were great people. I don't say that often but what he did for for the community and the friendship that he offered was second to none.

Colby you are a legend and will be deeply missed.

Colby @Aw9d.. you will be forever missed Brother. Colby was one of my best friends for over 13 years. One of the first people I met here on TW back then. It was part of the reason we bought our house where we did, in the same neighborhood. To be close. He was like family to a lot of us here. Between hosting mod days, helping anyone and everyone with stereo installs and electrical help, to throwing infamous cul-de-sac parties. He was always a joy to be around, he was smart, funny, compassionate and would help a person or animal over anything else he had going on at that moment. He taught me invaluable lessons and skills over the years.. helping me and tons of others understand electrical, stereos, computers, cars, and even life.. all while having a damn good time doing it. I admired him so much for his ability to not give a fuck about what others thought. If you knew Colby.. you knew him to be his own person. That's why we loved him.

I was wondering if that was the same Colby. I only had the pleasure of meeting him a couple times. He's one of the OGs that I will always remember. Truly a great guy and always willing to help. I've had a few stereo and electronic questions and he was always the first to answer back and talk me through my issue. Thoughts and prayers for his family. Definitely lost a good one. I don't know any of the details but I hope for him it was peaceful. I'll be pouring one out for the homie.
