Took the new tent out for a little camping/adventuring/mountain biking this weekend up in Apache-Sitgreaves. Rain fly leaked a little, I didnt season it before using it so it might just be a matter of hitting a few of the taped seams with a heat gun now that its had a little heat/cool/rain cycled through it. No fire bans up there right now, rained and hailed a ton, incredible riding and scenery. HUGE cliffs and canyons all over the place. Wound up riding some roads that we probably weren't supposed to. Hike-a-biked into and out of a few ravines. Hung out on quite a few cliff edges along the rim, Woods Canyon Lake and Chevelon Creek. Didn't make it all the way to Chevelon Canyon Lake because it was SO dusty before the rain and there were SO many idiots driving 100mph on the dirt roads not paying attention to anyone else on Earth.

Thoughts on a 2nd gen 2.7 4wd taco? The truck is in flagstaff and dont really have time to go test drive it.

    My shit is all stock.
I had one for a few months. Dumped it and got the V6. Woefully underpowered. Take it to altitude or turn on the AC and forget it. No wonder guy in Flag is dumping it. Had to floor it everywhere just to keep up with traffic. Got worse mileage than the V6!
    Don't do it.

So my clear coat on my hood and roof are absolutely trashed. I’d like to get the truck wrapped instead of painting it. Anybody have a shop they recommend in the East Valley?

Also deciding on color. 3M has two matte blue colors. One is closer to a powder blue (Riviera blue) and the other is probably closer to the original Speedway blue. That one is matte metallic blue.

So my truck is most likely going to be totaled. I've been looking for a new vehichle and I've narrowed down my searches to a either a 2nd gen V6 or an 05 T4R with the 4.7 V8. My only question is do you guys know which engine is more reliable?

The 4.0L in the 2nd gen is about as reliable as they get. That said, the only issue I have heard about the 4.7L V8 is something about the exhaust manifold cracking with age. An annoying fix, but once fixed it’s extremely reliable as well plus it’s a V8

I have two Treehouses with the 4.7 and they are great. That said the 2nd gen v6 is a good motor.

I will say, once you go SUV you don't go back to a truck bed. You buy a small trailer (or rent) instead. Or simply ask your buddies with a truck to help. haha.
Having your stuff locked up and protected from the weather all the time is just so nice.

With the 4.7, the timing belt needs work, but thats always the case with belts. We never had a single issue with our 4.7

Moved you over to the BS thread because it get plenty of traffic. Try Camelback Toyota, they seem to be the most popular as far as dealers go. Ask for Eric Murphy, hes a Land Cruiser guy and is the go-to for dealer related things with enthusiasts. I dont know if he frequents this site, I think hes more of an IH8MUD guy. Either way that should set you straight. If you dont want a dealership, you could try Sierra Expeditions. Not sure if theyll touch auto trans stuff though.

CBT did my diffs and t-case, and engine oil last month and I didn't have any issues. They quoted me $250 for a trans flush last month for a summer special

Anyone here camped around the silverton/Ouray area? Headed there for 5 days on Thursday. I’ve been down the million dollar highway but haven’t had a chance to explore.

It's been really busy up there lately with everything going on. I've camped at Little Molas Lake a bunch as a kid since my grandparents grew up in Silverton. I know Angel Creek in Ouray is really popular during the FJ summit. We camped last month south of Telluride at Alta Lakes and at Lizard Head.
