Are there any pros to them? Some guy was asking in another thread and I didn’t see anyone stick up for TRD skids over aftermarket skids.

This is why we didn’t re-badge the 4Runner. Faux TRD pro grill and debadge the rest. And next year it will out perform a true pro by a mile. Tacoma is done and working good, time for the 4Runner to get some love

It's the material, not the skid, per se...it would be solid if it were made of steel.

(here I go again, now triggering the aluminum folks...oops :boink:)

ETA: Usually, aftermarket skids are a complete solution (front/mid/xfer), versus the TRD which is only front. Couple that with an inferior metal, and there's not much to stick up for when there are far superior options. Some manufacturers do make additional skids that are compatible with the TRD, though.

Sorry to interrupt. New desert dweller checking in, and was referred over.

    Hello all.

On a serious note: do you all not lose 5 hp for each TRD vinyl you remove?

I've said it before on here but Aluminum is for people who don't plan on actually using a skid as a skid... which is fine for 99.5% of users out there.:) If you're just looking to block the odd road debris and/or get home after a one-time overestimation of your rig's capability, Aluminum is great because it weighs so much less.

My main beef with the TRD skids is that god awful red plastic inlay they put on them now, and the fact that they don't have a door (at least on the T4R version) to get at the oil filter so you have to drop the whole thing off.

Do you do ceramic coating and stuff like that? I've been considering having it done to both the Lexus and the T4R because they regularly get filthy and I'm not always in shape to be doing a thorough washing. I end up spending $5 at self-serve to just blast off the big chunks because apparently no one in the valley does touchless auto washes in favor of using the community toothbrush method of the foam linguine wheels.

Don’t disagree, and should have qualified my statement…aluminum is perfectly fine for the mall :)

I lost my Tacomall status when I removed my bed stickers because people on the freeway could no longer see the approximate MSRP value of my truck.

Shower thought that hopefully doesn't turn political... (it's about vehicle emissions calm down)

Post-rear O2 sensor cats... why? I mean, I understand why we need catalytic converters in general and I understand why they put big chunky ones right in the flow off the headers and pump emissions pumps over them and all that.

But the rear cats aren't monitored by any data stream, and aren't particularly effective compared to a properly warmed up primary... So why do we spend so much money on putting them on there when they appear to be nothing more than theft bait? Do manufacturers still have to "cheat" a tailpipe test in some states or something?

I understand that technically it's illegal to remove them but since they aren't monitored by any OBD parameter and I seriously doubt even the most tuned in inspector is going to remember where secondary non-monitored cats are on every vehicle, is it a dick move to just sell them to the local recycling yard for some crack money? o_O

Stage 3 restrictions in effect for coconino county starting Wednesday morning. Total forest closure including the Cinders. So much for summer camping and wheeling
