I'm not sure on first gens but is there a hook up/scan gauge/ something for monitoring knock remotely? That might be a good idea given the history you said on these...

Ya they said I can hook up a diagnostic tool and monitor pinging and knocking from the cab. I'll have to find that tool. A guy on TTORA has been helping me a lot.

Keep it running on the rich side, until its tuned, and you will be fine.

    Great idea.

Ya I'm glad I got that AFR gauge so I can see if it is running rich or lean. I def dont want to lean out in this hot weather. Either way I have the adjustable Fuel Mapping from URD so I can try my hand at figuring it out. Plus I guess there is a guy that is a pro at tuning 3.4 with S/C up in Flagstaff. I may have to make a trek as soon as I get it installed.

Hmm.....Havbing it tuned at that elevation is gonna be WAY different than tuning in your neck of the woods......Almost a 4K foot diff in elevation. A good AFR up there, could be WAY too lean in Tucson.

Truth. If he's willing to come down to tune it that'd be better, Tucson and Phoenix are 'close enough' in elevation as well... could meet here or up north around New River or something to get closer to Tucson's elevation levels...

i'm guessing you are using a wideband o2 for you afr right and not just some gauge that has a pretty light going back n forth? coming from a boosted car(wrx), i've seen how the standard afr gauges don't do much other than give you a general idea. but for true tuning purposes, a wideband is the way to go

Ya I got a legit one that is awesome. Its an XD-16 with LC-1.

Also to chris: This guy does maps and what not also for different elevations apparently. I havent spoken to him but a guy from TTORA said to go to him and he will hook it up.

Oh and my truck will be spending a year in Cali while I'm off doing what the AirForce tells me to do then its off to Italy. The elevation is 400 ft where I'll be so I will factor that in for sure

Ok....hmm.....A MAP is still gonna be different from an actual tune at a particular location. You might want to give a call to some places in Phoenix. Just to get an idea of whats out there.

Ya I appreciate it. I have no idea what the french toast I'm doing. The only people helping me out are from the INTERNETS. Everyone here in Tucson is like "youre trying to supercharge what? with what?" They dont wanna help me out so i have to rely on people i have never seen and can only trust what they say by the rep and post count they have. That and if they sound like they know what theyre talking about I'll listen. Lol. Shady eh?

O I thought they could load particular maps based on elevation. I didnt know it actually had to be at elevation. But I'll try an figure it out here if I can. If not then I have a month in california to figure it out. I'm sure no one in Italy would know what is going on so...

They can, but the map is an educated guess. IMHO, tuning an force inducted engine, especially one as finiky as the 3.4, should be tuned at the home area. Or close to it.

Ok. Ya all of this is new to me. But do you know of any one who does force induction programming up there?

Theres a place in Mesa, just east of Horn on Southern. They are on the north side of Southern, behind the car wash. They specialize in import tuning. All their vehicles are dyno tuned. I havent used them myself, but everyone I have talked to who has, says they do good work.

I'm sorry I lol'd at that descrption of where its located. It was funny how you described where its at. haha. But anyway. I want to get a before and after dyno run to find out where I stand. I think it would be amazing to see it on my actual vehicle.

goodspeed in scottsdale was the only place that i would let tune my car. i tried dynocomp, that they almost caused my engine to catch fire(wrx). they do have tuning tools like utec and accessports for imports, not sure if they will work for your truck or not. they allow for multiple maps for either different elevations or even different gas. now, these are all custom tunes that cost $, but if possible, avoid the dyno and get a road tune. you won't get the pretty hp, tq print outs, but at least your tune will be a real world experience and not a machine that can be altered to any given need(fudging numbers)
