    Colby,

I just went through this last year and this year.. took almost 14 months for me to get a CPAP machine. There is a $200-300 take home sleep study you can ask about. it was enough to show I was breaking the scale and needed a CPAP. I'm still dealing with them. if you want PM or call me and I can walk you through the steps.

Alot of guys are just running the beofeng (or however it’s spelled) on pci weatherman when wheeling. Just make sure you check all the rules out for yourself though since those have more power. Rugged makes a nice handheld for around that price range too.

nothing wrong with a CB, as @Rextinkleton93 said, if that's what your buddies run. I have a CB in my crawler, and I also have a 2-way HAM.. between the two, I can communicate usually with almost anyone I wheel with

Great, thanks for the info. I need to do some reading up. I’m not too familiar with either of them.

To get a Ham license, it is easy and cheap (relatively). The extended range benefits of using repeaters (tons of them in AZ) really make them worth the investment. There are several cheap handheld radios and even a few cheap mobile radios (hard mounted in the vehicle) that make it affordable. If you get into HAM radio, you can get crazy expensive, kinda like modding our trucks, but it doesn't have to be.

There are tons of free online study guides for your Technicians license. For basic communications, thats all you will need. Thunderbird Ham Radio Club is having a hamlets (swap mart) January 13th, they will have testing available.

Nothing wrong with CB, alot of guys have both. You also have FRS radios, those little cheap walkie-talkies, no license required, but very limited on range. I have my ham mobile radio set to work on those freqs. I have been on a trail run that required us to use all three forms of communication to keep everyone in the loop.

To answer your question about what CB to get. The Cobra 75 is very popular, as it can be mounted way out of the way and the radio controls are all in the handset. You can easily disconnect the handset and store it and no one will know you even have it. They can be found for a good price too.

So basic differences will include distances and availability of frequencies and such? All great info, thanks.

    Yes.

CB is limited to 11 meters frequency band. The two main ham bands are 2 m and 70cm, although there are many more that travel all around the world. Ham radio also has repeaters all over the state that extend your distance considerable. You can talk to people in Payson from the valley, Flagstaff, even San Diego... all via repeaters. Want to talk to the International Space Station... Ham radio! Out of cell coverage and need to make a phone call? Most repeaters have the ability to make local calls (called auto patch).

I don't remember the CB power limits, I want to saw 15 watts, but I could be wrong. Ham radio is 50 watts for most things. Your basic handheld will only do 5w while the mobiles can do 50w. There are ways to make everything have more power, but that is a lot more in-depth. The FRS radios are limited to 2w and a build in antenna. CB and HAM have attached antennas on the the handhelds, but even those can be connected to an externally mounted antenna (Magnetic mounted or more permanent).

Can't even buy the poor kid a playboy anymore. Well you can, but no more nude's so what's the point.

The 11 year old across the street has a toy drone that was maybe $20-30 bucks. That kid can't get enough of that shit. Came with a little controller and works pretty decent.
