That is the fan clutch that is malfunctioning, not your ac. Replacing it isn't that difficult

Mm, not necessarily. Mines kinda the same way. Besides if it's the clutch fan, you're engine will probly be running hot as well no? Or can clutch fans work intermittently? Idk. But my clutch fan works fine. I did a proper drain/vacuum and refill after replacing some o rings, which helped quite a bit to how it was previously, but still gets only mildy cool idling. And only gets back to being cool on one speed lower than on high, and after driving at speed for quite some time. I suspect that it's a component that will need replacing. My knowledge of the components is limited though. But in either case, getting it checked out professionally is the first step. Thats what I would do before doing anything else. Certainly do NOT use the crappy refill cans from parts stores to try and "top it off", or anything of that nature. I need to take mine in somewhere too. Because I'm pretty sure it should be working better than it is.

Another thing you CAN check or do, is to check the condenser for debri/dirt, and blow it out with compressed air. From the inside out, btw.
Edit: I even installed a couple efans in front of the condenser to help with low speed/idling performance, but I don't think they are doing squat.

Thanks for the advice,,,I have the same trouble as NightProwler. The clutch fan seems to engage and disengage properly. There are no weird noses coming from any area. I've also checked the condenser for any damage and is in great shape. About 2 or 3 yrs ago i had an AC hose replaced due to a leak, the system recharged but ever since ive felt the system hasn't been at 100%. Im just trying to find a reputable shop that is not the stealership. lol

Sounds like you are low on Freon. Grab a can at autozone and top it off and see if it makes a difference, if it does have somewhere put dye in it and check for leaks.

Is this the fix for it no... But its cheaper than paying a shop trouble shooting labor.. Also if there is too much Freon it will make your system kick off due to over pressure. The cans at the auto parts store will be fine for a little testing.

I mean, you could try this with a can that has dye in it. Once. Just to see if there's a leak. But don't buy any that are strictly Freon. Especially the ones with claimed additives to "make it colder". That's what I was told anyways. Don't remember why tho. Been too long. Then if you have a leak you'll know with that singular can. If not then it's been topped off. But the proper way to do it after fixing the leak, is to have a set of proper gauges, do a full drain/vacuum with a pump, and test it for any additonal leaks. That way you don't waste any money on buying additional cans of Freon to refill and wait for it to leak out yet again if it does. Not sure if you can rent the pumps or not, but they're expensive to buy. Gauges are reasonable tho.

My AC was doing the same thing to me last year. I did what @JTB727 suggests and picked up some R134a from O'Reilly and topped it off a few times, even over filling it by accident once (turned the can upside down, not suppose to do that), but there is a relief valve that kicked out the excessive pressure and I haven't had an issue since.

When I got my stuff from O'Reilly, I was sure to NOT get the R134a that had leak stop additives, no need to have that shit gumming up my system. I just wanted to top it off and see if it went bad again. It didn't.

I think the AC's poor performance came from when I may have bumped an AC line when I was changing my battery. Topping off the system was easy and relatively cheap.

This is what you want, the legit stuff from DuPont along with the hose needed to fill your system:

    Refrigerant,R134a,12 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CUNFGI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MbGszb6A9WADE

This. And done. I'm sure there's lots of threads out there with additional info. Along with debates that have been drawn out about it. Ha. Back on topic.. Still on the lookout for potential goodies:D

This. When it comes to AC in a car/truck take it to a professional. There are too many ways to fuck up super easy fixes that will cost you more down the road.

House AC on the other hand you can fix that shit yourself unless the compressor needs Freon or dies. Other than that it's just parts replacement and is super easy to do.

I'd be interested in the sliders but I don't have a DCLB or a lot of money to throw around right now.:boink:

I dont need any haha. I used to live down south and when I was in afghan temps were between 130-140 so I have had my fun in the sun and will enjoy being able to leave my door and windows open all day haha. Yeah they are long but I am thinking of maybe letting them go for next to nothing if you cut them off yourself.
